Btw, question about fish food - for small fish like cherry barb, neon tetra etc..

I always find there's a thin layer of oil like liquid on the surface of my tank, and today I finally found out the main cause, it's the fish food I have been feeding, it seems to be a bit oily. Does anyone has the same issue? Which fish food do you use?

EI is a much cheaper solution, but you need to ensure you have a heavily planted tank. I had algae bloom at a time, but now everything is under controlled.

ah, so no points changing fish food. I used to have an inflow which is also a surface skimmer, but I accidentally broke it in half while cleaning it. doh.gif

And, today is a bad day, I just found out my CO2 regulator leaking, and there's no way to fix it but to replace it! The solenoid is attached to the regulator as well, I have to replace the whole thing..... ahhhhh...

What brand do you guys use and how much roughly? Need to get a replacement asap.

Hey davido, that's the brand I'm using, and one of the meter start leaking co2.

I'm thinking to get a regulator with separated solenoid.

Ahhh... thanks for the insight, that could be an issue. How long does your current regulator lasted?

I have a question about co2 tank, do you turn open the tank valve to fully opened (before passing through regulator) or just slightly opened?

O ring, as in the part where it connected to the tank? Do you use the white plastic strip (for piping)? That can avoid leakage.

Thanks jctasoga, looks like the regulator with attached solenoid is a winner here. :/

Hey Fr0sty, just recently bought a huge patch of MC, I planted some extra MC with some left over ADA amazonia soil emersedly which is nutrient rich. I reckon you do need a have a good, nutrient rich soil because that's the only method your emersed plants will get its nutrient from. (whereas if submersed, the plant can get its nutrient via water column).

I bought it from china, so after agent fees and shipping, should be around rm30-40.

Hey tehoice, I'm currently using a lily pipe, is that one of the methods to diminish the thin oil film? I thought that's for producing oxygen during night time.

For algae eater shrimp - I think Amano/Yamato and Malaya Shrimps are quite a popular choice. I use Red Cherry Shrimp because they look good in the tank smile.gif

Hi davlee, welcome! I started high tech tank 3 months ago.

Yes, you can have a low tech tank which doesn't use co2 (maybe just liquid carbon), that's mean you won't have a lot of choice of plants, plants will grow much slower and doesn't need a lot of light.
