Hello all the sifus, I am total newbie here. Just start a tank 2weeks ago. Would like to ask about the black spot on my plant. The black spot is algae? Is it because of high phosphate in the water or too much light? Wanted to get a tank for my kid and only realize so much things to learn after having it. |

QUOTE(kizwan @ Oct 26 2020, 04:03 PM) It does looks like Black Beard Algae to me. It started that way, black spot. How long you turn on the light? Some people use Seachem Flourish Excel, some use combination of Excel & Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2). Spot treatment, meaning you drain the water until the parts where BBA is exposed, then dap the solution directly to BBA. Less intrusive is to get amano shrimps. Ok. Will try the Seachem Flourish Excel to do the spot treatment 1st, then get the amano shrimps on the weekend.I usually on for 6hours but i think my wife sometime forgot to off after on it to look at the fish. |

Hellllllo~ good day everyone...
I just started my planted tank 2 months ago, just noticed that KH is very low less than 1dkh (based on the test kit I used), PH around 7... Did some google advised that KH shd be 2-4, else will bad for fish. Any sifu here know how to increase KH without increase PH that much ya? Google said add coral stone/chemical... but at the same time will increase PH too. Thanks ya |

Some aquarist reported their amano died while others reported their amano doing fine. Since it is still small outbreak. Try with amano shrimps first. As far as I know, our tap water is very soft. I think 1 dkh is fine though. If you want to increase water hardness, look at Seachem Equilibrium & Seachem Acid Buffer since pH already 7.I just started my planted tank 2 months ago, just noticed that KH is very low less than 1dkh (based on the test kit I used), PH around 7... I'm having Cardinal Tetra / Oto in my tanks... For shrimp I got Amano, but they all have died within a week. So thinking is it water too soft that cause it This post has been edited by MonkeyMo: Oct 27 2020, 01:12 PM |

QUOTE(MonkeyMo @ Oct 27 2020, 12:58 PM) Thank you very much sifu... It can be from number of things. Did you check water for ammonia, nitrite & nitrate? For shrimps it is best to drip acclimate them, so that they able to get use to the new water condition. So meaning the softwater won't really kill my fish?
