Guys, need advise on a new lighting system for my 3ft aquarium. keen to explore LED or any light with hanger or "gooseneck" to hang the lights (was going to DIY for a light rack/hanger)
Budget below RM400 (would prefer to keep it lower so i can get a new bag of soil with the balance fund ) Appreciate your input! Some little info for my setup: I have a 36"x18"x18" tank and I used to do aquascaping on medium to low light setup. I had 4x21 watt lights (2 housing unit with side leg bracket) with CO2 system with timer to do the work. I actually abandoned my tank for almost 4 years now since my first kid was born, and only that I know the lights stopped working entirely (after electricity tripped). In the end I found out that my both the light housing unit is faulty and probably had a burnt ballast. So recently my kid showed interest in fishes so I thought I would want to "restart" the project (still have some plants, corys and cherry shrimps in it, with a couple of yamato roaming and fighting for food inside ) |

Gosh I just recall that few years back I came across an article about using LED Flood Lights as DIY aquarium lights. They used ssome 6000k to 10000k LED flood lights and they could grow plants! Wonder any of you guys tried?
Looks like LED flood lights could be the cheap alternatives now. |

It works, just matter of how are we going to maintain the power consumption and the plants growth. who knows algae bloom faster than the plants Looks like LED flood lights could be the cheap alternatives now. |

Yeah that's always the concern... probably got to play around with the 3x 10w or 2x 30w to see how it goes...Another concern is the colour temperature... |

I'm using this 2 strips of 3 feet Wave Point, specs below:Another concern is the colour temperature... Wave Point® 36” 30-watt Super Blue & 10000k Daylight Photon Energy LED High Output Light Strip 15x Super Blue 15x 10000k Daylight Results are pretty convincing for the first year. But qualities for the growth of the plants are dropping. Not much photosynthesis bubbling happening in the tank. That's why i've decided to change it. And my options are below: 1. Fluval LED 2.0 2. Chihiros A901 Price from lelong.com.my wise, Fluval cost 3 times more than Chihiros, of course the specs wise are much better than Chihiros (full spectrum) and again doesn't mean Chihiros won't perform well |
