Update: I have algae problem which I expected because the tutorial I follow have this problem too. However, the shrimp that I ordered when I started this tank did not arrived. So algae have spread pretty bad. I managed to get an algae eater snail & fish.
The only problem is that the snail destroyed my Rotala Indica. I put the snail for now in my non-planted tank. The snail is pretty good in clearing algae though. I read Rotala Indica is breakable plant, so go figure. Lol I end up re-planted new Rotala Indica, also another species of plant & floating plants - Water lettuce (Pistia Stratiotes). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Is there any online store that allow me to buy aquatic plants & algae eater shrimp? Local of course. This post has been edited by kizwan: Aug 25 2019, 01:29 PM |

QUOTE(victorsoo @ Aug 22 2019, 10:26 AM) Looks like an apple snail. They are quite aggressive with plants and they eat very fast. Thanks. I read that we can feed them boiled vegetables. Is any vegetables will do?Online aquatic stores, maybe you can explore these: 1. Beebies Mart 2. Ace Story Aquatic 3. Aquacult Studio |

QUOTE(victorsoo @ Aug 26 2019, 03:34 PM) Anacharis is a very low maintenance plant and they grow like weeds. You can even leave them floating and they will grow just fine. Yeah I found an article on Anacharis - how to care, etc. I already have Water lettuce (Pistia Stratiotes) for floating plant. Another floating plant may look too crowded. A friend advice me to attach to a rock using rubber band or copper wire. Are they going to grow roots & attached to the rock later? |

QUOTE(frankzane @ Aug 29 2019, 01:53 PM) I had just introduced 5 algae eaters into my small tank. You can feed them with vegetable or commercial food. What algae eaters you have? Snail, shrimp or fish?Do you think they will die of starving one day? These fella really did a good job in cleaning my tank. I'm running out of algae! |

QUOTE(frankzane @ Aug 30 2019, 02:32 PM) I heard once we fed them with commercial food, they will stop eating algae? Got such thing? I never heard of that but when I googled about CAE, seems like there's some truth in it. When they become adult they prefer live food like bloodworm. They also may become aggressive.Oto, Chinese algae eater (yellow and dotted). https://meethepet.com/chinese-algae-eater/ |

I found out the local name for the fish; smangkin or semangkin. I just don't know the scientific name which is important because i want to read more about it.
Btw, i'm so obsessed with no filter, no fert, no co2 planted tank setup. |

I have 6 (lazy) Albino Bristlenose Pleco & 4 Albino Corydoras reinforcement to take care algae.9 months still semi botak? i would though 2" should be good enough for it to grow..... I am still struggling with algea..... doing a 3 days black-out now. after that will plant 3 more pot of drawf hair grass..... last time should not have so kiam-siap... as i bought only 2 pot. Didn't you have a pair of Apple Snail in your tank? This post has been edited by kizwan: Sep 3 2019, 08:30 PM |

QUOTE(victorsoo @ Sep 4 2019, 10:06 AM) Hmm, from what I know corydoras don't eat algae. Plecos are okay but yeah, they can get lazy. I first thought that too. The shopkeeper told me that too. I bought two anyway because they're cute & tiny but they turn out devour the green algae when I put them in the tank. So I got two more. Some articles claim they are carnivores while others claim they are omnivores. Maybe you can try looking for a few otocinclus to help with your algae problem. Hopefully Rotala Indica grow fine this time. ![]() |

QUOTE(victorsoo @ Sep 5 2019, 10:07 AM) Lucky you then. My corys never bother to eat my algae so I use otos and cherry shrimps. Maybe your algae sedaps so your corys eat. Thanks! Yeah I know, I read about that too & even my gut tells me it's not going to make it but you know I'm stubborn. lol The ones I re-planted mostly the ones that survived melting & the ones that grow in the tank. Hopefully they already acclimated to the tank water parameter.Good luck with your rotala. I never had luck with rotala in my tank. Twice I planted, twice melted. Although the guy at the fish shop did warn me that rotala needs CO2 to grow well and I decided to risk it. |

Regarding my Rotala Indica, reducing light duration doesn't work well with it. The bottom part melting pretty quickly. No problem with Anacharis & the other two plants that I have not yet identified. Also I think my algae problem related to my Rotala stunted growth.
QUOTE(Spaceman_27 @ Sep 4 2019, 09:53 PM) ![]() I'm gonna aquascape my 2.5G tank. It's gonna be a low tech tank since i'm poor as heck. I'm gonna ask a few questions: 1- Will a moss carpet work if i just have sand as substrate? ADA soil is bloody expensive. (Maybe i cap a layer of sand above power soil?) 2- What easy plants can i use for the background? (Keep in mind sense of scale, as my tank is pretty small) I'm not planning to add CO2 since that stuff burns a hole through my pocket. 2- I'm using a 5W LED table lamp as lighting. Is that okay for planted tanks? Specialised aquarium lighting is so damn expensive, even the made in china types which only last a few months. If you follow Walstad Method, CO2 is created by breakdown of organic compound in the soil. So you don't need to worry about CO2. For the plants, I have a list that I copied that grow well in low tech setup but unable to copy & paste here. I'm on mobile though. I'll add later when I'm on my computer. Get floating plants too. EDIT:- I just paste everything here. I didn't filter which ones for background. These are growing well in low tech setup. I can confirm Anacharis & Water Lettuce grow well although I'm not using organic soil in current setup. I have another 2 feet tank that I will use organic soil in it. BTW, for substrate, clay is another cheaper option but water can be very cloudy. If you careful, gravel on top & didn't bother the plant too much, it is doable. For clay you can use unscented clay-type cat litter. I have no experience in this setup but I know how clay react with the water. If the water calm, it will not cloud the water, it will remain at the bottom. With the gravel on top, small 2mm to 3mm gravel & 1 to 1 ½ inch deep, should be ok I think. Maybe cloudy little bit when you first time fill the tank with water. amazon swords crypts anubias wisteria frogbit valisnaria water sprite salvania duckweed water lettuce java moss liverwort waterweed water nymph narrow leafed anacharis Ceratophyllum demersum (hornwort) Azolla imbricate (mosquito fern) Najas Guadalupensis (guppy grass) Bacopa caroliniana Ludwigia Sp. Mini Super Red Hemianthus glomeratus (pearl grass) Egeria densa (Anachris) Didiplis diandra Dwarf hairgrass For light, I read it is recommended to use CFL/fluorescent lamp over LED. In my backyard there are several places that the soil always wet & when raining it get flooded always. There are many small plants grow healthily with red, green leaves. I'm wondering if I can put this in my tank. I have two planted tanks right now but I'm a bit hesitant to try these plants in my tanks. Both still long way to go in term of stability. Most importantly if anyone can help me identify the plants.

I prefer to know the plant name first. I hate planting without knowing at least the name of the plant. If I know the name then I can learn more about the plant.
