oh btw about riccia. so far I have 3 types in my tank
the regular riccia, mini riccia (imported illegally lol),

and one which is even smaller than mini riccia, which i like the most
it grows horizontally - carpeting - not like mini or regular, and it clumps together tightly, dont go loose like regular riccia, even if it floats. the whole piece floats up, much easier to maintain n clean.

i have them grow emersed, now it looks like super short golf putty turf.

Pictures would be highly appreciated 😄

on the far left posteriorly - the regular riccia fulitans

the middle one with bubbles - mini riccia

the ones on the foreground - ? pico riccia (note grows horizontally)

the one on my hand (taken out from the tank, ~ almost 1inch in height. very dense. mini riccia) resembles golf turf lol

Thanks btw with that many bubbles it's actually floating. I tie it down to a stone with a string.

With that many bubbles they do look awesome with moon light too (blue).

But the issue is if it don't float up it will drop above other plants -.-" especially in the mornings.

What I've noticed.

Mini riccia pearl the most
Then regular riccia
Then ? Pico / micro riccia.

just like artsyfarty questioned what size are you looking at?

if just wanted to start up with a foolproof and easy to maintain good looking tank, (if your budget allows )

I always suggest
tank
Fluval Spec 5V RRP rm330 or equivalant
a capable shrimp / fish aquascape tank with a big overkill size filter to keep the water quality stable.

substrate
2L of amazonia powder type ~ rm 80 (unsure of the price)
ADA (5 powder base) ~ rm 20

Hard Scape - rm 20 (or much less)

and low tech moss and plants of your choice

air pump (at night only) - I truly believe that it will make the flora (greener) and fauna healthier (colorful)
fluval Q2 RRP89 or equivalant

depending on the environment that you are going to place your tank, mode of water cooling might be needed.
a. fan cooling (rm 50+)
b. peltier cooling (rm250+) electric bill - i dont see any significant changes

Misc stuff
timer switch (for light)
temperature control switch (for fan)
nets
plant forceps, scissors
water test kits
ferts
algae scraper (glass)
old tooth brushes ^^
food for the fauna
anti chlorine (unless you have RO water)
and bacterias (filter)

If you want to go high tech

add Co2 and upgrade light source.

hey icedlink,

Am interested in the :-
b. peltier cooling (rm250+) electric bill - i dont see any significant changes

Can provide more info please?

Yo ~

peltier cooling ?

my 2 cents
well it can only work for tanks up to max 50L

( PLS note my environment condition- no peltier cooling about 30-31 deg due to power filter) tested on Fluval Edge 46L.

- water temp can go down to 24 deg (probably lower but this is after 8 hrs of running continuously) but i didnt bother to test further
- I've set it to 27 deg (with max 28 deg) , fan kicks in on and off about 20-30mins interval depending on ambient temp and runs for about 10-20mins reach time

my other unit on a Spec 5G ~ 20L

no peltier cooling temp is 29 deg ( a much cooler pump ! )
- ive set it to 25deg (with max 26.5 deg) and fan kicks in about 25-40mins interval (and runs about 8-15 min to reach back at 25 deg)

Ive disassembled a 400w unit due to its poor heat dissipation design, going to custom it soon (when i have the time and extra $ eheheheh

I agree, peltier is for small tanks. Mine is 200w, ill try to find ways to log and record its power consumption.

Hi Divas , welcome to the hobby.

well i cant advice much,
1. if you have a Co2 system in place just use it. ^^
2. start with DSM to kick start your plants.
3. I personally use powersand special for all my tanks ( so its up 2 u really - not 100% needed)
4. crush corals is fine but you have to be aware of your TDS.

others tips and advices need the sifu's here to help you ~~

cheers.

peltier is one of the way to reduce water temperature, but keep eye on your TNB bill.
my friend once tested before, it cost him Rm80 monthly just reducing 2C water temperature.
good luck biggrin.gif

how you calculate the average 1.4kw ?
since it is 200w , you are assuming total time of usage is 7 hours per day ? (out of 24hours)
*
very simple, i bought this meter from here (probably the last one since then its sold out)
http://www.lelong.com.my/electric-power-co...7-06-Sale-P.htm

works like a charm ^^

http://www.lelong.com.my/electric-power-co...7-08-Sale-P.htm

it is more exp but has a removable replaceable internal battery.
the one i bought has a internal rechargeable battery (which i reckon is better )
