can cats consume dog biscuits?
i got two cats, both are stray cats, one is around 6 months old, one is around 2 months old...

the younger cat prefer dog bisuits, sometime she will eat dog biscuits together with my dogs...
the older cat is raised by another kind auntie, and i adopted it 2-3 weeks ago, she consume cat biscuits...

now i purchased cat canned food and i intend to finish it then give both cats dog biscuits...
can the cats eat them? would affect them from health perspective?
or i need to get cat biscuits?

my intention is to save cost, but if its affect their health, i dont mind buy cat biscuits...

i got two dogs at home, aged around 6 months, also stray dogs

hi there fellow cat&dog owner,
i understand that the costs of caring for both cats and dogs are high.
However, the diet of a cat is not the same as a dog.
Cats are obligate carnivores, meaning

obligate carnivore(Noun)
An animal that necessarily subsists on a diet consisting mainly of meat, because it does not possess the physiology to digest vegetable matter.
Such animals may consume other materials (vegetable or mineral) for non-nutritional purposes.

Dog food consists of higher amount of carbs than cheap cat food.

If you need help, I've made spreadsheet for both wet and dry food for cats. I am always on a hunt for promotions and will buy bulk to save.
As of now, I am looking for more wet food as a mama cat just gave birth to 4 kittens in my house porch!

appreciate the reply..

from the seller of the pet shop i buy dog biscuits, she told me dogs that are less than 1 year old, must have high protein intake
for this reason i bought the dog biscuits she recommend to me, which is 27% protein (as stated on the packaging), 15kg package costs Rm168
then the shop got sell vege dog biscuits also, cost RM80 for 10kg package

initially i give them the 27% protein food, now i mixed that 27% protein and vege for my dogs...
i duno this info correct or not as i never focus on dog nutrition before...

so for cats, is there any nutrition rules need to follow like dogs?

might affect their health in the long run..

even cheap cat food, the protein mostly  plant base.

try to shop for cheaper brands,
whats the cheapest you can get for cat kibble?
*
i havent really go check out kibbie yet....but i dont want to get conned by the pet shop seller...
from my exposure to cat food so far, cat cannot keep eating canned food daily....

i manage to get cat canned food RM3.5 per can, sometimes 1 can last 2 day, sometimes last for 1.5 days...

i want to save cost, but i dont want to get cheapo brands that can caused health issues to them as well...

for example, dog food, pedigree is too salty will caused dogs to loose fur alot... (from what i heard)

the 27% protein dog biscuits in my previous post, i also see some shiny salt-like thing in it also, my dogs also loose some fur, but i duno how to compare with pedigree as i never buy it...
but their fur very cantik and shinny...

You made the choice for yourself to be vegetarian. I recommend you NOT impose your choice on your animals. They didn't make that choice for themselves.
*
yes, i am aware....and i expect will have response like this...
i didnt force them to become vege like me...i treat them like treating my kid...

from my perspective, all are sentient beings, they maybe in other forms before this life.
from my religious view, they become animal due to their sins, and i will try to help them to not consume animal based food.

cats and dogs are omnivore like human.
i will do testing on them, who knows my cats and dogs can become vege? if they can become vege without affecting their health, why not?
if they cant, i just maintain whatever diet which is good for their health...

but i understand what u trying to tell me, dont worry.

my plan is, for my dogs, once they fully grown, i will switch to fully vege dog food, then maybe in 2-3 days interval, i get steamed chicken/eggs/pig organ/pig blood(in chinese) for them.
but now they not yet 1 year old, now i mixed normal dog food +vege dog food for them, so far they are healthy and run like mad dog when i walk them to nearest padang to run free...

on side note,
being a vegetarian doesnt mean will lose some nutrients, which is wrongly "advertised" by doctors or nutrionist or advertisement or anyone any party that we must consume animal based food or it affects health.

Cats are true/obligate carnivores. Cats obtain key nutrients from meat & this including taurine, vitamin A and vitamin B12 which can not sufficiently obtain from plant-based food. They can get sick if they cannot get steady & sufficient supply of these nutrients.

For cats & dogs nutrition needs, you don't experiment without consulting veterinary-trained nutritionist.

alright, well noted...

Then why are you asking for plant-based diet recommendations?
What? Even if you were religious, animals were created animals, not because they did something wrong. If anything, I could argue that they have shorter lives than humans do because they are more pure than we are so they don't have to stay on earth as long to prove themselves.
Cats are not, even if you don't want to believe it.
Dogs are OMNIVORES, NOT herbivores.
No I don't think you do. I agree with you that being a vegetarian doesn't mean you go without nutrients but I would agree with this FOR HUMANS. Don't fuck around with your animals.

wow, such response...

Then why are you asking for plant-based diet recommendations?
cause i want to try?

...

Cats are not, even if you don't want to believe it.
not sure where is the subjectivity comes from...
anyway, ystdy night it pops into my mind that only plant based animal has side-ways chewing jaw and no sharp teeth.
while cats have four sharp teeth

Dogs are OMNIVORES, NOT herbivores.
at least not carnivore

No I don't think you do. I agree with you that being a vegetarian doesn't mean you go without nutrients but I would agree with this FOR HUMANS. Don't fuck around with your animals.
up to u then if u think i dont understand...everyone is entitled to their own opinion...

My advise, please dont take in any pets if you want to stick to your way. You are killing them by giving vege-diets no matter what age they are.

Human diet doesnt work on pets.
*
where did u get ur sense that i'm gonna stick to my way?
i dont remember i want to forcefully make my cats and dogs become vege... hmm.gif

Some homemade cat food contain small amount of veggie like carrot (boiled). They helps in digestive system & the vitamins also useful for cats. But only as supplement/snack & feed in moderation. It can lead to health issue if feed too much. The main diet still must contain meat.

well noted.
