personally i think rc, iams and equilibrio kitten are the same standard - all have corn meal (used as a filler, doesn't get digested by cats). But, I would prefer iams over RC - my cats seem to enjoy it better, and they seem to have problems with poo poo. They were on iams from 2 months old to 3 months. After that, I switched to Hill's (also has corn meal, but cats loved it way more).
if you are able to afford it, consider brands like wellness core or blackwood that don't use grains. My kittens are on wellness core and they have such lovely coats
