Need some advice. I adopted an adult male cat back in March. Have been feeding him dry food from the start but in the last 2 months, I have added 1 feeding of canned/wet food every day.

2 days ago, I noticed that he was sitting in the litter box for a long time. He would return to it a few times and leave no urine. I suspect he may be having blocked urethra. I did find urine in the box in the next morning and he was back to his normal self.

Yesterday, there was urine in the box and he seems ok. He did however pee on my bean bag last night.

1. Is there anything I can feed him as a preventive measure?

2. I heard that treatment can be very expensive. Can some one recommend me a good vet that is not too expensive?

water and more water.

according to studies, recommended ~50-60ml of water per kg per day.

if u measure, it looks alot. yes for a cat is alot, but no choice hv to start increase the water intake.

u can calculate the amount of water in the can food tht you feed per day, and add more if needed.

might need to change the dry food to those tht use more animal base protein if u can afford.

Have stopped giving him dry food 2 days ago. Keeping him on wet food for now.

Sounds like UTI. How often do you clean the litter box since dirty litter box can be a reason he got it. Also, always provide a bowl of water.

1. Go to the vet first. They usually will give Himalaya Nefrotec for UTI. EDIT: I think I misunderstood. This is medication, not food.

I clean his litter box every morning. I always fill his bowl so he has clean drinking water.

you can go to gov vet or those university vets. as for water. hard to get cats to drink it. for me i feed my cat wet food cause she hates water. i even add water to the wetfood lol. i kena huge vet fees last time so now i just get my cat insurance. at least no need worry too much for financial burden.

I'll follow your tip and add some water into his food. Will observe his condition over the next few days and bring him to the vet if it gets worse. Only worry is the bill!
