I brought my cat back to the vet exactly a week after surgery to cut her stitch. But somehow my vet's incision is on the belly of the cat itself, yours seems to be on the side. Perhaps different vet, different techniques. Or maybe angle lari kot
I remember my cat started to lick and nibble on her stitch (the reason I say stitch is because AFAIK it was a very small incision), but the vet said it is normal as they are curious. As long as they don't remove the stitch, it will be okay. Just needed to be stern with her whenever she nibbled her stitch, whenever she did it we would scold her and she understood not to do it. Licking as fine, as my vet said it's part of their healing process.
Like I said previously, my cat when in her cage she climbs and stretches so we had to let her out, but paid very close attention to her. No sudden movements, no playing around for a couple of days. However at night, we put her back in the cage to sleep - only for a week till we got the stitch removed and then no more cage.
Doesn't matter maybe as long as they can get & remove what need to be removed. my girl climb in the cage as soon as she reach home. lick her wound and i'm not comfortable as the wound was a bit red hence i went to buy the waterproof dressing and stick on he belly. each dressing last for 3 days before she is busy peeling it off.
first 2 days full cage in is suffering for her. on day 3 onwards, we starts to give her time off to come out from the cage. only little gentle game and alot of pat and rubbing to comfort her. out and running after day 7.
her stitches untied and stick out from her skin after 2 weeks. i just pull it off and she's fine.
My cats start to lick the stitches on 2nd day after surgery. I don't know whether because itching but she was grooming & eventually licked there anyway. So far so good, even if they lick, nothing bad happen, the stitches remain clean except the (antibacterial??) cream that I need to apply twice a day. My vet told me to clean the wound before applying the cream but the wound remain clean & dry, I just wipe with cotton & apply the cream.first 2 days full cage in is suffering for her. on day 3 onwards, we starts to give her time off to come out from the cage. only little gentle game and alot of pat and rubbing to comfort her. out and running after day 7.

I can't sleep properly for a couple of days. I always woke up few times at night to check them, to make sure they did not lick the wound too much.
I think after a week, it should be ok for the cat to lick & nibble the stitches. My vet also told me it's normal & it'll help undoing the stitches automatically.
