Hi, people. This is my first time posting here. This is my first time adopting a cat.

I have a domestic short hair female kitten, about 5 month old. She is actually a stray kitten, was so thin when she first came to my house. Now her weight is around 1.9kg. She would be receiving her 3rd vaccination early next month. She lives outdoor, i made her a house. My concern is that she is prone to get flu and fever, moreover given the fact she did not get her mother’s breastmilk, thus her immune might be low. This is her second time to have that within 3 months. I am quite worried as her appetite would reduced drastically, she would appeared lethargy, not active and became so thin whenever she got sick. Right now im feeding her with blackwood kitten dry with occasional cindy’s original or fussie cat premium wet once in two or three days.

Any suggestion on how to improve her immune system or maybe there is a better food for her?

As suggested by other members, Vetri-DMG is very effective for me and its basically one of the must have in my house. I usually also use L-Lysine together with vitamin C as antioxidant. Does she roam freely outdoor or she is just staying in the house u made and doesn't go out of the house? if she is a free-roamer then it can be difficult to maintain her health condition since she can catch all sorts of virus from other cats outside. I used to allow my cats roam freely whenever they like from day to night but now I limit their outdoor activity time and mostly keep them indoor, they are much healthier now. I'm feeding my cats with blackwood too, together with home-cooked meals, I think the food u are giving is good enough for her.

Hi. My kitty has really dirty ears. Lots of ear wax everyday. Not sure if it's normal or not. The Dr back then said it was normal.doesnt seems to be ear mite. But I still put ear mite medicine for him and clean his ear everyday.

So the question is, is the ear wax due to his diet. I fed him royal canin kitten. Read it somewhere that it can be from diet. I'm very reluctant to change his diet since this one give him firm poop and he looks healthy.

Any advise? First time taking care of cat so not sure if it's normal.

Anyway, here's my cat looking ready for valentine. Hahaha.

Hi all, I'm new to taking care of cats.

I was wondering how did you guys put up the fences around the house, especially for high rise unit(condo)? I let my cat roam around the house with the windows and doors closed, for obvious reasons.
And recently, I think it is kinda put up my own house in a suffocating environment just for the sake of my cat's safety, so, I was thinking about installing fence on the windows pane, and door grill. However, after getting quotation from the nearby hardware store, the cost for installing the wire frame cost around RM600++! I do believe there is a cheaper alternatives around, and I do believe you guys have experience in that, would you guys kindly share how would you guys prevent your cats from taking the leap of faith? or run away from house? Thanks

I live in a terrace house and I use this type of plastic mesh on my front gate to prevent my cat from running out onto the road. You can buy it from most hardware stores. You can just tie it to your door grille using metal wires or plastic cable ties.

wow, thanks for the suggestion. my concern is that will it be durable enough to withstand the cat's attempt to claw/bite their way out? and btw this definitely much cheaper than the wire mesh though.

The plastic mesh is actually quite thick. Your hand might even hurt when you try to cut it with scissors to fit your door grille. laugh.gif
I'm not sure how determined is your cat to escape but no harm trying and see if he/she tries to bite or claw it.

My cat tried to climb the mesh before. It held her weight (about 4.5kg) and didn't break. laugh.gif

i was comtemplating to install the mesh up until covering the entire door and window grill, cos i'm not taking chances to let my cat to escape.
but actually how high a cat can climb?

AFAIK, cats can climb very high - they can climb trees. So if you don't wanna take any chances, I'd agree with you covering up everything.

okay, how about installing on window pane? i heard from my friend saying installing the plastic mesh works on front gate, but the window might not due to the plastic mesh may not be able to absorb the impact as the metal variant. what is your thought on this?

I'm afraid I can't comment on using the plastic mesh on windows because I don't use it there. I'm not too sure what you mean by "being able to absorb impact" but I can say I have mosquito netting on my windows and my cat doesn't try to climb it or run headlong into it. LOL. Unless you're expecting your cat to do so? hmm.gif

Although I've never fed my cat Avoderm before, I'd say it is a decent wet food as they claim to use several good ingredients. If you're able to afford Avoderm for your cat then go ahead and see if your cat likes it, and avoid those cheap brands that use a lot of gelatin.

Just FYI, I used to feed my cat Natural Balance previously but switched to Monge after she got bored of Natural Balance.

dont clean the ear everyday!

i believe it will irritate the ear lining, and will make it produce wax.

few times vet clean the cats ear during vaccination, after that the ear will look dirty cos of waxlike stuff,

since u put earmite med for so long, stop wait n see,
the cat doesnt scratch the ear it is ok,

take a photo of the inside ear n post here pls.

this is normal clay litter, price is a bit more than those cheaper stuff,

maybe less "powder" or more fragrant.. thats all.

majority of cats will use clay litter.
