From Turtle Rock Studios, creators of Left 4 Dead, comes Evolve, the next generation of multiplayer shooters where four Hunters face off against a single, player-controlled Monster in adrenaline-pumping 4v1 matches. Play as the Monster to use savage abilities and an animalistic sense to kill your human enemies, or choose one of four Hunter classes (Assault, Trapper, Medic and Support) and team up to take down the beast on the planet Shear, where flora and fauna act as an adversary to man and monster alike. Level up to unlock new Hunter or Monster characters as well as upgrades, skins, and perks. Earn your infamy on the leaderboards and become the apex predator.

Game modes

Hunt:
The Hunters must kill the Monster before it can destroy the power relay located in the map. The Monster must reach stage 3 in order to destroy the relay, though it can also opt to kill all of the Hunters.

Nest:
Six Monster eggs are located in random locations on the map. The Monster must protect them from the Hunters for 10 minutes, and can hatch one of the eggs to spawn a minion to help it. The Hunters must destroy all six eggs, as well as any minions, within the time limit to win.

Rescue:
Injured colonists trying to escape the Monsters are placed randomly on the map. Hunters need to locate, revive and protect them as they make their escape. The monster needs to kill as many of these colonists as possible and keep them from getting away. Who ever saves or kills five colonists first wins.

Defend:
A starship's refueling station comes under the assault of a player-controlled fully evolved monster and smaller Goliath minions. The hunters must stop the monster from causing a catastrophic accident by protecting the power generators until the ship is fully powered, while the monster must destroy two generators to reach the ship's power source.

Evacuation:
A series of five matches between the same players, being the effective "story mode" of the game. Each match gives the winning side an advantage in the next map (such as a destroyed power plant releasing toxic gas the monster is immune to or a saved one powering autonomous turrets to assist the hunters), ending with a Defend match.

Story

Evolve is set on Shear, a distant planet located in the "Far Arm" of space, that humanity has traveled to in the distant future. The established colonies, considered the most valuable in this region of space, are soon attacked by malevolent alien Monsters.[9] As the Monsters slaughter the colonists on Shear, a former planet tamer named William Cabot is brought out of retirement to deal with the threat, in order to evacuate the remaining colonists from Shear. In response, Cabot assembles a team of Hunters—consisting of war veterans, psychopaths, professionals, and expendables—to eliminate the Monsters, setting the main conflict of Evolve.

- Supernova: Releases an explosion around herself, while also buffing her own damage and attack speed.

Behemoth

Last time i played in Close beta, I felt like the map is abit too big for 5 players.... spotted the monster then it started running, player trace foot steps, found again > run > find foot steps/traces, rinse & repeat until that monster player die or it started evolve stronger then the table turns the other way round lol.

Evolve‘s first salvo of post-release downloadable content is due to arrive on March 31, 2015, and publisher 2K Games has a bunch of details.

First up is a new monster, the Behemoth, which is best for those that favor tank strategies (high health, middling damage). The add-on beast has the ability to roll itself up into a ball for quick movement, but being that it’s also a towering beast, its rolling form is a dangerous force to be reckoned with. The Behemoth is a free download for those that pre-ordered Evolve, but it can also be purchased for $15.

The add-ons also add four new hunters to the game, one for each of the four classes. Torvald fills the assault role, with a mortar cannon that doubles as his arm. Crow, the trapper, brings along a pet Batray (one of the game’s winged creatures) to track the monster. Slim is a genetically modified combat medic. And finally, Sunny fills the support role with a “mininuke grenade launcher.”

Yep.

The four hunters are to be sold separately at $7.50 apiece, but they can be purchase as a $25 bundle as well. Much like the three groups of hunters that shipped with the main game, the new quartet each fills their assigned role in very different ways. Developer Turtle Rock Studios runs through more specifics right here on Evolve‘s official website.

Also coming as free add-ons are two new maps — Broken Hill Mine and Broken Hill Foundry — which introduce two new hunting environments as well as some new campaign effects for Evolve‘s longform match type, Evacuation. The maps are coming to Xbox One on March 31, but they’re not on PlayStation 4 or Windows until April 30. They’re both free, regardless of platform.

Lastly, Turtle Rock is also ready to launch Observer Mode, an eSports-friendly addition to the game that injects a sixth “player” into every match, providing them with the tools for dipping into the perspective of a match’s five actual players. The intent is for Observer Mode to be used in streaming situations. It features a more elaborate HUD than the other players see, with the aim of giving viewers a broader overview of how a particular engagement is unfolding, regardless of whose eyes they’re seeing it through.

Evolve is an unusual competitive multiplayer game that pits four hunters, each with a specific role to play, against one, large monster that has the ability to feast on wildlife and evolve into a stronger being. The core hunting mode is very much a cat-and-mouse style showdown, with the hunters trying to track the beast before it reaches its fully evolved, most powerful state.
