i need a some advice, i just pre-ordered 980ti, and i aiming to 4k gaming, mostly played FPS and RPG like GTA, Witcher 3....etc.
I am surveying a 4K monitor, or TV.
But i found out a 4k TV at 40inch just around RM2k- 3k.
Instead, a 4k gaming monitor can cost the same price but smaller screen (27").

May i know whats the major difference if i buy the 4K tv instead of 4K monitor?
Which one should be good for gaming and viewing experince?

Just wonder why smaller but expansive.

In simply, if viewing distance is not a problem (i can mount on wall and sit far for gaming at TV), then the major diff will be refresh rate, agree?

But in this case, G-Syn monitor has the advantage over 4K TV.
But do really a matter for this refresh rate like 30hz to 60hz in 4K?
i can't feel it, cause i never try, any user exp here can share?

BTW, i am narrowing down my target to below model, anyone can comment which model u will take for 4k gaming with 980ti.

Gaming Monitor:
Asus PB287Q RM2.6K
Acer XB280HK RM2K

4K TV:
LG 40UB800T RM1.9k

Another thing to ask, is G-Sycn only support Display Port Input?
And if my graphic card is using Display port as output to monitor, can i use HDMI port on it for audio passthrough at the same time?
Because my sound system is using HDMI input...

I am using the same panel. Works fine by me, it is TN but a good TN panel. It cannot beat the best 4K panels running IGZO tech like the PQ321Q from Asus or the Dell Ultrasharps but I'd sacrifice color accuracy over G-Sync anytime. Frame drops to 30-40fps on 4K max settings is common and in that sense, G-Sync helps more than color accuracy. You can recalibrate the colors later to your likings anyway.

Although I'm using the Acer 4K as temporary measure until Asus finally get off their lazy ass and releases their ROG PG321AQ 4K IPS monitor. It's been announced more than 5 months ago and still not available for release, only seen at tech shows like Computex, etc.

Sounds good, may i know where u bought this panel? from here also?

Anyway, i am comparing this panel with Asus PG278Q, whats your opinion about this panel?

Asus build quality better.

Yeah, i believed too.
But is more expansive RM400-500, and no G-Sync (Acer one got).

Benq build quality trumps asus. Price too.

Here is the thing theres too many connectivity advancement n panel tech etc.

Normally we buy monitors n they last a good over 5 year
4k gaming is a reality now but not for refresh rate. Gsync works best with a large refresh rate window.

Go into 4k when dp1.3, ips 120/144hz becomes a reality. reponse rate is another issue

Early adopters of swift .. It was the 144hz gaming that was 120hz gaminh that was awesome.

Rumour has it nvidia has a newer iteration of gsync.

So decide. We buy gpus on game now concept. Choosing monitors atm not a easy thing to decide.

Can i conclude your word like below:

4k is good reso, but is not that impressive under low frame rate (<60fps, since my single GPU wont do that).
But at this point, a G-sync monitor shall smoothen the frame rate at 4k (like Acer XB280HT), am i right?

As a current powerful single GPU may can push over 60fps on QHD reso, a 2k monitor with high refresh rate and g-sync
will giving a more smooth, and outstanding gameplay experience (Asus PG278Q) if compare back to 4k at <60 fps.

So just choose between, High Reso or High Framerate (middle reso), am i get into the concept?
correct me if i wrong

From all the reviews I read and watched, 980Ti can get minimum 35fps and upwards on 4K at max settings (or max settings tweaked with some options turned off). That is enough to run 4K with G-Sync compensating for the 30+ fps framerate. Some games are finicky when it comes to enabling SLI and I had to run them as a single card Titan X, and I do get framerates like those (4K at 35fps and above). My Acer 4K G-Sync monitor compensates beautifully for it, resulting in a smooth gaming experience, even at that fps. I would NEVER game at those fps if I am gaming on a non G-Sync panel, the stutter and frame drops will be too obvious.

The experience is definitely better at 1440p, but I dunno about you, but for me, once you go 4K, turning back to lower res seems awful looking to me. Besides, 1440p on 980Ti at max settings, you can probably get away without using a G-Sync monitor since your framerates will be high enough to notice any frame drops.

hmmp.... seems 4k with G-Sync is a go, but problem comes now is i can find any seller with XB280HT got ready stock right now.
Saw your signature got pre-ordered asus PG27AQ, where u got the pre-order sell?

Acer 4K 60hz G-Sync if you need it now, Asus PG278AQ 4K 60Hz IPS G-Sync if you can wait for it to release.

Put it this way: if it was me, and I've never seen 4K before, an UltraWide would be okay. If I've seen 4K, it'll be hard on me to go back to anything of lower resolution. Even if they're 144Hz. It's no small feat to get a game to run at 144 frames per second, and it may require you to drop game settings from Ultra or Very High to lower, and personally I dont game any lower than those two settings. Personal preference of course.

Also personal preference, if you had to go immersive gaming, that Ultrawide is better than putting three monitors together for Surround. Personally to me, bezels on monitors takes away immersion.

Most important of all, whichever monitor you choose, get G-sync.

I am dealing with supplier to get stock info of Acer XB280HK actually.
After few day on review researching, i found most people claiming that ultrawide is actually more immersive in gaming than 4k, despite 4k is higher resolution, but required more house power to push it at 60p,
also i worrying about the Windows and program scaling issue, do u facing it?

I will not consider QHD at 28" as it is just about 30% boost of image from 1080p.
144hz? never seems before, but i think current using 60hz monitor is quite satisfy for me d.
I am just quite curious how G-Sync is performing during i playing a 4K game, is it just a gimmic, hard to say.
So i gonna go for a G-Sync this time to taste it.
