Couple of weeks back, the word is that the 8Gb variant of the GTX 980/970 is coming. But apparently still 256 bit BUS.

http://wccftech.com/nvidia-geforce-gtx-970...d-availability/

Btw, lol at TITAN-X btw, one of the most irrelevant GPUs at the moment imo. tongue.gif

GTX 960? Nahh.... for 1080p gaming, it'll work. But 4k? Not quite.

The future of gaming will be gamers wearing 'headgears' bobbing their head around. tongue.gif Never tried VR so...

Anyways, looking forward to the announcement, should be accompanied by some awesome showcase of some game title.

On a second note, yikes on the lawsuit and stuff... icon_question.gif My take on it is that customers are always right and they paid for what they believe is 'proper 4.0' and not '3.5 + 0.5'. The big boss saying there was a miscommunication and it is actually a feature just added more fuel to the fire.

Sadly, it is not going to be an easy way out for Nvidia on this... unless some kind of recall/refund/compensation/offer on the next GPU purchase perhaps is provided. Easier said than done for sure.

And even sadder is that the 980 Ti has been pushed to 2016.

I am just hoping for at least a 6GB variant of Maxwell... laugh.gif pointless at 1080p but I plan to jump to 4k. Pretty sure in future even at 1080p higher than 4Gb VRAM usage will be in place.

Lol, I know... I stand by what I said. smile.gif

Let's say a car is advertised to run at 400-HP. When it starts going beyond 350-HP (e.g. 360-HP), it starts to slowdown tremendously. So how is it that it is advertised as a 400-HP car? It is supposed to run just fine at over 350-HP. laugh.gif

So whatever "feature" it is, breakthrough or not, it is not making users happy. The so-called "feature" at the end of the day is not mentioned to the user upfront and they feel cheated for what they believed they paid for.

No not that.

http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphics-Card...tations-GTX-970

Read dude.

Understand why this is actually a first. Before this it was never possible. By design following previous gpus including those from AMD.... GTX970 should have been a 3gb card.

So its a feature.. cause its a breakthrough. When you disable the L2 you take off the ROP and MC with it. and afaik normally it a Even number.

It's a feature, sure. A breakthrough, sure. A first, sure.

But why did Nvidia keep quiet for months only for one user to point out the oddity and thus a cascade of in-depth look into how the 970 was built? hmm.gif

Point is, they should have been upfront. This feature/breakthrough could no doubt benefit future GPUs; conventional way providing just e.g. 7Gb VRAM, but with this method, able to bump the GPU to have "8Gb VRAM" with the last 0.5Gb being slower. But DO mention it upfront instead. Not all gamers pour over Nvidia architecture slideshows to learn how their GPUs are built.

We are dealing with an issue of misinformation here to customers who bought what they 'believed' in and there is no way to defend Nvidia.

Good job on the feature, bad job on relaying the information.

Got myself a used Gainward GTX 970 "3.5Gb" GPU a few weeks back (less than RM1k hehe..). Loving it ever since (only gaming at 1080p) -- tried on BF:Hardline and FC4, really smooth compared to my 680. Was doing spring cleaning on my desktop machine when I thought, hey, why not get a 970 for a nice boost in performance. tongue.gif

980 Ti is definitely coming... to counter AMD's Radeon 300, but in terms of cost (and my ageing i7-870 processor), I'll stay away for the time being until a big upgrade perhaps during 2016's Pascal, but for now, not bad for my 5-year-old PC. smile.gif

Where did u get your GTX970 for less than 1k  ohmy.gif

I want it too for that price range

PS: Did not read the word "used"

Btw, I'm planning to get myself a Asus GTX960 2Gb. Any other recommendations under 1k?

Thanks

Yeah, garage sales. These 970s get picked up really fast, so opportunity came and I managed to get one under RM1k.

I wouldn't recommend a GTX 960 simply because with just a slightly higher budget, you could get yourself a 970; better performance and 3.5Gb of video memory for reasonable future proofing. There are R9 290 Tri-xx's being offered too around the RM1k range, but personally, I would go for a 970.

On a different note, not sure if common among GTX 970s... but the HDMI (mini) on the Gainward GTX 970 just wouldn't output any video. Used a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI converter and worked like a charm (with audio too). smile.gif

GTA 5 seem to be the 'it' PC game now (played it on my PS3), and the 970 apparently is neck and neck with the 980

Wow so lucky.

What model of 970 that you got?

Cilaka yesterday I saw at kota kinabalu prices of computer parts go up so fast. MSI Tiger 970 already RM1430+ with GST zzz

No shops dare to stock Titan X sweat.gif

Not 'too' lucky I have to say. This was the fourth 970 that was on Garage Sales a few weeks back that I managed to be the first buyer. The first three before I could even PM the seller, sold out already tongue.gif

It is a reference model - Gainward GTX 970. I was gunning for Leadtek at least, but oh well. It was just a 'sudden' upgrade, not something I was planning on anyways.

Here's hoping to get my hands on a copy of Project CARS in the coming days, can't wait to see how it looks on my 970! flex.gif biggrin.gif
