Forsee coding issue. Say gpu 2 wants to access gpu 1 memory controller for that bit of vram. N the latency from sli connector.
maybe crossfire will work better since the 290 uses the pcielanes

By the time DX12 becomes mainstream, HBM will be available on both Nvidia and AMD cards. I don't see the issue. Mantle in theory can already combine 2 cards into 1 anyways.

QUOTE(gogo2 @ Feb 9 2015, 08:29 PM)
True also. I assume most AAA will support since DX12 is available on both nVidia and AMD.
Yes, I'm ignorant because I ignore reference card. Most of the time reference card are bare essential. Non-reference card will have more FPS, better cooling and more VRM.  thumbup.gif

Question is, WHEN does AAA games start supporting DX12? This year? I doubt it. I believe all this ties back into developing on consoles as well, to achieve "parity".

There's no need to brand/label someone as a "FANBOY".

I have been using GPU's for a long long time.

From early ATI (AMD) Radeon cards & Nvidia cards till now.

Since ATI has been taken over by AMD, to be frank I am not that IMPRESSED with the current high end Radeon offerings (despite AMD's aggressive pricing). Performance is there all right but at some trade off with higher power consumption & heat.

When I look at Nvidia's product line, there's a certain refinement & quality in the products. (Despite the gtx 970 fiasco, the performance is still there AND will be there).

I tried out the Maxwell gpu's myself, I kinda like it, they re pretty cool / refined.....products.

despite it's build on 28nm, Nvidia has done a great engineering feat here. increasing efficiency / reducing power consumption at the same time, something AMD has not been doing or rather not to focused on it.

Just look at both companies today; Nvidia with a market cap of 10 billion dollars vs AMD of 2.2 bil. Definitely this speak for itself well, AMD needs to buck up.

Don't think it will happen again, the 4690  is a haswell refresh , so you need to update the bios of the B85 mobo first in order for it to work.

ah ic, what i mean is if next time i wanna change motherboard and this thing happen, how do i fix it myself ? cause i dont wanna keep going back to lowyat to fix such simple problem =X

If you change it to H97,no BIOS updates needed. wink.gif

Also, you are asking in the wrong section..

AMD likes to show off brute gpu power where Nvidia try to reduce power consumption, trust me my electricity bill is different when i started using gtx970

My electricity bill is not bad after switching to seasonic power supplies.

I turn on my pc from 8am till 1am. And still have one more desktop running HD5830.

Monthly only RM87 bill. This includes 2 fridges and all other household electrical appliances for 4 people. Just no aircon.

Just need to remember AMD's TDP is always overstated, while Nvidia's is terbalik laugh.gif

in nvidia there is option for power management.

i set mine to adaptive, only use the gpu as much as needed, then throttle when not really required to go all out.

I set specific rules for games i play to use maximum power when i have those games open.

To me this is a good balance between maximum performance and power management.

Not sure what ATI does in regards to that hmm.gif

150w vs 2x 180w. biggrin.gif

that also depends on how often you run it.

If you play games like 2 hours a day, the difference on bill would be negligible.

x
yes AMD TDP always overstated... by again i see Goldfries be" guys i test it on 500w okay ja.." (well not exact qoute.. but u get it tongue.gif ) meanwhile Nvidia advertise on their Idle TDP lolx laugh.gif

TDP != power draw

Interestingly nVidia stats 120w for GTX 960 and I managed to get the card to reach of exceed 120w power draw.

AMD on the other hand, if it's a 250w TDP card, takes me so much effort and I can't psu hit to 250w. sad.gif My R9 280X + R9 280X + FX-9590 configuration I expect 250w + 250w + 200w = 700w, with wall draw around 800w but want to breach 600w wall draw also difficult. biggrin.gif

Eh curious how you managed to max out the powerdraw of the card. Nvidia has better driver api to max the performance of their card ever since the wonder driver.. You need to account for that

Best without throttling is 3dmark11 gpu test one custom all max with AA disabled. Warning to others on this test. Even wc furmark/folding temp only 41c. This hits 50-55c after few loops.
