How did you "try" the coupon? The instructions are pretty clear cut:

1. Create or log in to your Alienware Arena account.
2. Click the "GET KEY" button.
3. Open your Steam client, click "Games" in the top menu and choose "Activate a Product on Steam…"
4. Follow the on-screen instructions and insert your key.
5. The Hearts of Iron III collection includes all of the games DLC (expansions and bonus packs).

In case you missed this, EU4 DLC (El Dorado) will feature a Nation Designer that enables you to setup the map so that it becomes a'la Civilization.

This allows you to change the overall setup of the map in the following ways:
Normal Setup: The map is populated by historical nations, and Custom Nations are available.
Historical Setup: The map is populated by historical nations, and Custom Nations are disabled.
Custom Setup: The map is empty asides from player-designed Custom Nations, and all nations start with a colonist.
Random Setup: The map is empty asides from player-designed Custom Nations in the lobby, but once play is started it is populated with randomly generated states that use the historical tags and names.

Custom Setup allows you setup up to 32 custom/historical nations to be placed on an empty map of earth.

Long Live the Queen and Analogue are both really good IMHO. World end economica is a good kinetic novel as well.
