Showtime747,

ASx will be gone long before ASB.  ASB will be the last to go.  In fact, THE GOVERNMENT may still pay ASB dividend even it is bankrupted due to political reason.

ASx invest around 80% of its assets in equities and the bal in bond, money market n cash
In addition, its equity investments in Bursa consists of Blue-Chip companies
Some of those companies r Gamuda, IJM Corp, BAT, Nestle, PPB Group, UMW, AMMB, CIMB, HL Bank, Maybank, Public Bank, RHB Cap, Petronas Chemical, Petronas Gas, Digi, IOI Corp, KLK, IOI Properties, Sunway, Amway, Axiata, IHH, Maxis, MAHB, MISC, Petronas Dagangan, Sime Darby, SKPetro, Tenaga, Telekom, KLCC Property, Sunreit and the list goes on..........
Mind to share Y those companies will go bankrupty which will affect ASx ability to meet unit holders demand?

Foreign currency reserves is not for "defend" your currency.
It is used to fund the short term external trade and import bill.

USD90 bil is not "a lot" if you look at how USD10 bil was gone within a month plus period when there was rumour of BNM "defend" RM at RM3.80 level.

So BNM needs to be prudent how to use the foreign currency reserves.
*
In fact, USD96 bil is nothing to shout about
Tis yr, our reserves of USD96.7 bil is about 30% of GDP
In 1998, our reserves of USD26.2 bil was about 36% of GDP

Just in time ? I wish I could say that when dealing with banks on my loans !

Any support from government for the repayment of debt is going to be very badly received by investors and the public.

And guys, the international ratings agencies – Fitch, Moody’s and S&P – have all maintained Malaysia’s outlook as stable. There are no economists out there who are saying that Malaysia’s economy will collapse, only politicians are saying this.  doh.gif

That's the problem. Yes! "strange Malaysian mentality". Always wrong interpretation. The message is we are not alone and what are we going to do about it.
*
The Good - MYR is under value coz all economic indicators r ok
The Bad - Rakyat suffer coz purchasing power is reduce due to depreciation of MYR
The Ugly - MYR depreciate faster than other Asia Pacific currencies due to Trust Deficit
