r9 280x users. Do guys have problem with artifacts or flickering issues or is that only a minor 1% who has that problem?

I'm looking to get either the 7950 vs R9 280x both are great cards (2nd hand) minimum 2years warranty.

the 7950 is 50ringgit cheaper than the 280x . for 50 ringgit more, for 280x there is at least a 10-15fps upgrade from the 7950.

Just wanna get some opinions from the users themselves before making my purchase.

Don't wna go through the hassle of having to RMA the cards once purchased.

jst gonna post it here then

got a refurbished 280x dual-x sapphire yesterday.

Certain games run fine but on AAA games, there's flickering and even on chrome (gotta disable hardware acceleration to avoid the black boxes of doom)

Tried cranking voltages by a bit to solve the issue as recommended on9 but doesn't help. Tried the beta drivers as well, doesn't solve it.

Anyone has the same issue and managed to solve it?

Can you try it on friend's computer?

Your power supply doesn't seem good enough. I have crash problems with my old PSU, now running fine on Seasonic. 280X drinks lots of juice since it is overclocked and overvolted 7970.

don't have anyone to brw me their psu but on full load the entire system only consumes roughly about 280-350w.

I'm guessing the 500w should be sufficient, technically.

and also the flickering issue is no longer there god knows how. thanks anyways!

Based on TDP:

CPU : 77 w
GPU: 250 w
RAM: 2 x 3 w
Motherboard: 30 w
HDD: 2 x 8 w
DVD: 15 w

Total: 394 watts (not including case fans)

You are clutching at straws with that 500w PSU. Is that 500w true power or advertised gimmicks? Most cheap PSUs fail at delivering rated loads and even ATX specifications.

Not to mention the fact that power consumption is not a linear power draw but many small instantaneous power draws with peaks. A smaller PSU may not be able to handle the sudden peak power demands.

well this was a highly recommended model back in 2012.

it's the 80+ powerrock unit and not the newer model of the powerrock series.

i do have another rig back home which is powered by a seasonic 620w semi-modular unit.

but i'll only be on break in a month or two. if the flickering issue does occur again, i'll go ahead and get another psu unit just to check if it's the psu issue.
