Not coil whine. I had coil whine before but it isn't loud. Now I using better PSU coil whine is very rare.

If CF works it's so much faster, if it didn't work then about 10% performance loss.

But 1.5k for 290 Tri-X is expensive.

rm1.5k for 290x tri-x is not worth it. 290 cf are much more faster than single 290x. just get the 290 and you can easily overclock it to 290x performance.

my 290 cf are equipped with custom coolers.. so it becomes 2.5 slot gpu.. tri-x only take 2 slot.. still have headroom for cf config no prob. my experience so far with 290cf can maxed any game at 1080p (its kinda overkill for 1080p actually). but i think with your 1440p, a single 290 hard to maxed out all game especially the AAA one.. surely you need 290 CF

4 fans would make the card impossibly long, or the card would be generating one heck of a noise, due to smaller fans...

nope i haven oc, my casing is too small and air circulation is bad. At full load on shadow of mordor my gpu temp ranges from 70-73 at 60% fan speed. I need to change my case badly.

Is that manual fan speed? 60% is quite loud imo. My card usually ran around 30+% fan speed around 72C.

Tri-X can run fine at 80-82 C. At 81 C the auto fan speed will be set at 50-56%

50% fan speed is the speed that is slightly louder than my case fans.

What case are you using?
I used small case last time with bad circulation but I have aircon so it wasn't a problem then haha.

That is the reason I refuse to buy anything brand new after GST. I noticed this stupid trend where even before GST they jack up the price like you mentioned. Not all the shop do this but its annoying when my favorite shop did it.

The reason why AMD R2 290 series is cheap is because it's old. If you open up GPU-Z you can see the announced date. The card is approaching 2 years old (290X released on Oct 2013!!)! AMD cuts their price after GTX 900 series comes out around Sept 2014.

And what is the ideal temperature during gaming? I played Farcry3 and Sniper Elite 3 on ultra setting the temperature reached 80 degree. Is it normal?
