Got 2 types of Lightning:-

1030MHZ Lite version
1080MHZ Full version

Which version is RM1239?

Got any source to this? So far I only seem to find the 1080MHz version in their website.

He's right, got 2 version.

1. MSI R9 290X Lightning LE
2. MSI R9 290X Lightning

By the gods, it is true then. Anyway, I do not think a mere 50MHz makes much difference since these beasts are made to be overclocked anyway. biggrin.gif

Shady as hell. laugh.gif

Btw is it grey import? hmm.gif

I asked them regarding the warranty, they just say is 2 years covered by their shop. Probably it isn't from official MSI distri. Maybe something like what feiton used to do for Powercolor cards.

Around 76-78 when playing AC:U and Dying Light. I increased the fan speed and the temp drop to 73-ish but quite noisy.
*
How high could you overclock the 970? biggrin.gif

Around 1420mhz-1430mhz. Temp already reached 80 on open casing, didn't bother to try with close casing.

That figure is the boost clock, not base clock right?

Can't find Lightning and i'm already at the limit of my budget, if wait any longer i'll probably use the money to buy other stuffs.  doh.gif  The price was RM1,199.

Congrats bro. Finally you have full access to 4GB VRAM. brows.gif

Why only access 4GB when you can access 8GB?
*
Unless our friend is going for 4K, I think 4GB is just fine. icon_rolleyes.gif Even then, I bet a single 290X with 8GB would even struggle at 4K, not due to VRAM run out, but already run out of GPU processing power.

Not true. DirectX 12 will increase 290x processing power 5 times.  rclxms.gif
*
Now still DX11 la bro. So far a number of reviews did not quite indicate large benefits from the extra 4GB.

I think review does not do it correctly.

They need to load high texture that fill up 8GB of VRAM.

Then run it on 290X and 980.

I'm sure 290x will trump 980.  rclxms.gif

I think high texture is not mainstream, but more of a mod. Most average gamers would not likely use high texture packs etc.

You go talk to those review websites la, perhaps your point is valid. thumbup.gif

Reading all your explanations really brings back those nostalgic moments here, where Heat Transfer and Thermodynamics was one of my fav subject back in college. Malangnya today everything give back to lecturer di. tongue.gif

I have personally run factory overclocked R9 280X and HD 7950 before with a Corsair GS600, a decent 600W PSU, fully tested with a number of games minus FurMark of cos. biggrin.gif I can safely say that the 750W recommended by manufacturer is likely (don't quote me) stated there with added buffer to probably take into consideration those sub-par 750W PSU that would only effectively supply ~ 550 - 600W (which is where a standard system with this card consumes, refer to Guru3D's review). Mind you, a very large number of ppl may not know much on PSU and what an important role it can play. Someone might just plug in a cap ayam 600W thinking that it can safely power up the 280X only to know that that it can only effectively supply ~ 300W only. sweat.gif So better just bloat it up and just put 750W, win-win for everyone. brows.gif

I still cannot find an official power figure from AMD for its R9 280X / 280 cards. Long ago, I did recall seeing the HD 7970's recommended PSU was at least 550W, but now I could not find it anymore.

not a big problem, just that more VRAM does give you more performance if the game requires.

Here's my review of the R9 390X. http://www.goldfries.com/hardware-reviews/...ic-card-review/

The R9 390X was able to beat the GTX 980 on Shadow of Mordor.

Games like GTA V for example, if you set it to 4K reso with AA settings, it could tough 6GB VRAM usage. Single GPU on 4K for GTA V doesn't work well of course but when run multi-card config the VRAM will be good.

What do you mean by your closing note, that the unit was problematic?
