Hi, wanna ask for opinion,
is it okay to install thermal pads on the back of my r9 290?
i want to install thermal pads between the PCB and my aluminium backplate for my r9 290.. is this okay? if yes, anyone has experience with this?

oo, i think i'll only be putting thermal pads on vrm since my core is not covered by the backplate.. thanks for the input

the vrm looks like those soldered parts on the back?

And do thermal pads size matters? or i can just buy a large pad and cut them using x-acto knife?

Not true. Now 1080p game also use 3.5gb and above. That is why NVidia con is found.

I believe by end of the year, 1080p full texture gaming need 6gb.

Everything is destined to be obsolete~ even buying 380X, it will be obsolete in 2 years time. of coz it depend on ones sense of 'outdate-ness', 290X maybe replace with newer and more capable model, but it doesn't mean it will simply 'outdated' by my mean, I guess it still perform as high end card for at least 2 years . just like HD 7970, it still lives and staying relatively relevant till today by the name of R9 280X, i guess still no one will say 280X are obsolete by now right?

Think so.  They don't want you to mess with their product. BTW, the vanilla 290x already phased out in our country.

i recently contacted sapphire inquiring about thermal pads size to place them between my r9 290 tri-x and my custom backplate..
And their reply was " we don't recommend adding/changing/modding hardware on our cards "
and said that even adding a backplate violate that... and risk of voiding warranty..

No 8GB at that particular shop, if u want to get a refund, they max only can gimme back 75% of the value. So I dun think i have more choice.

Yes, I have heard of that. I have tested this card with some of my favourite games (Watch dogs, COD AW, World of tanks etc), so far so good.

PS: never let it went through stressing software like furmark tho
