?? aren't you down with GTX 980 Ti 8GB or you afraid to find out is 7.5GB  brows.gif

add-on: EVGA GTX 980 TI
*
It's most probably 6GB.
It follows the memory config that is 384bit.

well, i just hope AMD will still be the best price/performance gpu manufacturer.. even if the price is right, 2nd hand value for current amd gpu will be insanely dropped due to the 70% of performance increase sweat.gif
*
The article also mentioned 380X will be 400 usd and have around the performance of 290X hmm.gif

I don't think it's really that good price, considering that GTX 970 was released at 330 usd and 290X was released at 550 usd a year and half ago.

OMG!!! so we all need Freesync !!!!

[attachmentid=4379332]

seriously... i almost Never see this happen on my Gaming... a small minor screen tearing during game.. but vsync help remove it.. and  i am just afraid next driver update made all my gaming EXP to be  tearing... like the example top just cause they want to sell new tech in LCD...  hmm.gif
*
I rarely use V-sync, hate the mouse lag with it.

But then even without V-sync the tearing isn't that much if the fps is high enough. Above 40 fps is good enough.

When the fps drops below 30fps is where the tearing looked bad.

below 30fps is not tearing artifact, it is called stuttering.

when the graphics card push above your refresh rate, than it is tearing.
*
There are stuttering that much when Vsync is off...

From what I know screen tearing can't be captured through screenshot. And it doesn't look like that either laugh.gif

If any of you feeling brave you can overclock your refresh rate, by using software like cru (custom resolution utility). I got mine to 75Hz, that eliminate screen tearing for me and also improve fast paced gaming
*
Sigh I can't overclock my monitor, the image is twisted.
I really interested in 120/144Hz monitors now.

Mine only OC'ed to 70Hz, it does slightly improve input lag.
Twisted like how? hmm.gif

Upon further testing, the new driver is another keeper for me.

I had trouble with AC:Unity after switching to 290x where the GPU usage won't go over 90% and average FPS only around 40s which is similar to my old 7950.
I did a clean driver install twice and that didn't fix it but this 15.3 driver almost fix the problem. Now my GPU usage is >90% most of the times and average FPS improve to 60-ish(50-ish on super crowded area).

Another noticeable improvement is for Project Cars. Now GPU usage also >90% where previously hover around 45%-60%.

*
Holy shiet so cheap now. So worth it. Imagine it is only slightly slower than GTX 970 but performs better at 1440p and 4K.

Mine can't unlock.

BTW, anyone with 290/290X custom coolers running card overclocked while gaming, not just benching?
*
Depends on my games I play. If it is old game or Dota 2 then i run at stock card speeds.
If it is on more taxing games then it'll be either at 1080Mhz or 1150MHz depending on room temp(no aircon)

Max speed for bench is 1200-1230Mhz.

Ok ok la since 1150MHz is already 21.4% overclock compared to 290's stock clock of 947MHz

Reason : Never done properly before. Want to see if I can get better fps with the games I'm playing
Risk : Yes.
Trixx : Installed but no idea head or tail how to use it.  tongue.gif

Most links I found about OC are from intermediate to advance level kind of talk so I don't understand anything. Those that were beginner's level was ages ago and was using different version of software than current ones.
*
Sapphire have several version for their 260X. Some of it have dual fan big heatsinks while other have single fan small aluminum heatsinks. If you have the aluminum version I think you better don't OC.

Just dissembled my R9 290 Tri-X to clean it up, and replaced the thermal paste.
I'm disappointed with the finishing quality of the copper plate of the heatsink, it was really rough.
I'm going to test temps first hehe.

Holy hell my thermal paste is hard to estimate.
First try :A bit more paste = 83 C and 63% fan speed at stock speeds
Second try: A bit less paste = 88C and 73% dan speed holy hell
Third try: ngam-ngam = now sitting at 77C and 45% fan speed.

The thermal paste stated it have break in period and will have improve afterwards, nice.

But I'm thinking to buy AS MX4 later

remember, GPU and CPU have different method of application nod.gif

CPU side, dot is king or line or rice grain

GPU side, youll need to apply more

Yeah, I used about three times the amount I used on CPU.
Plus the heatsink of Tri-X has grooves on the plate, it kinda sux.
I'll upload the photos later.
