Well, this is quite surprising. So that most people thought that AMD gpu have better DX12 support, it turns out no. The maxwell chip actually have better DX12 feature.

Is it important though?

With most upcoming PC games will be ported from console, probably not important at all.

I don't know. People been saying about how good mantle is for AMD and gaming. And how Mantle 'push' Microsoft for DX12 development. And also got people say that DX12 is almost similar to Mantle. I find it quite irony.

If DX12 is not important, then why people screaming at MS who abandoning DX development all this while?

Mantle 'push' Microsoft? No such thing.
DX12 is already in development long before AMD announced its Mantle initiative.
Beside, the so called Mantle low level is kinda useless because Catalyst driver cpu overhead.

DX development doesn't take one year to finish, it takes several years for testing suitability, acceptability and feasibility.
I think Mantle kinda rushed to the market. If you take a look on the mantle documentation, it is kinda......messy and feel rushed.
Really wonder how DICE is able to use the mantle renderer.

Mantle is destined for failure in first place.
Reason, AMD has somehow low discrete gpu market share.
For console argument;
PS4 dev tool uses PlayStation Shader Language (PSSL).
Xbox One on the other hand uses DirectX HLSL with dx 11.2 API.

We don't expect Sony to support mantle or microsoft to use its competitors API, no?

Reason for people saying some documentation from mantle is similar to dx12 documentation?
Simple, AMD contributed some of the code to Microsoft to review and included in DX12. It is not copying.
*
That's what i told to those who keep saying Mantle is the reason why DX12 existed. DX12 dev is way before Mantle.

Did anyone discuss on the pricing? USD649, USD549, i think this is great pricing.Fury X is way cheaper than titan x, Fury Air cooled is slightly cheaper than 980 Ti.

Fury Air cooled caught my attention, probably get one of this, and water cooled it to fit into my ncase M1. Started to think about waterblok or if i can reuse my existing universal block with proper mounting brackets.

Hmm that 8.6 teraflops of single compute is no joke.

Looking at the math
4096/2816x5.6= 8.15. So theres extra .45 from fiji that indicates new gcn improvement.

Really need to see the new gcn feature level support. If its tier 3 on all categories seriously interesting.

This card is perfect for a itx build.

Yes. I stated before if they can get similar performance around 980, with that small form factor (air cooled), it is nice perfect setup for me at least.

Im using Ncase M1 casing, custom loop both gpu and cpu water cooled. I need a GPU replacement, still thinking of going Fury or stick with nvidia. And need new VRR monitor. Had to plan my purchase.

About the pricing though, I read at some forum mentioning someone from reddit will eat his shoe or sock if the Fury X costs less than USD 650........which AMD priced at USD649.....so..... whistling.gif

suddenly im so exited of going to freeysync route instead of g-sync. As perfect g-sync/freesync monitor still non-available in malaysia. Whichever came first i'll go for that.

That small form factor of air cooled fury really caught my attention, and of course the price. thumbup.gif

Both freesync and gsync really costs a bomb.
Wouldn't recommend you to buy it yet.  There are some issues associated with variable refresh rate for both.

I'm well inform of both VRR tech. I've made the decision to go for it. icon_rolleyes.gif

BTW, looks like Fury Nano would be my choice - I always found out that my case is too small for long graphics card... sweat.gif

Either nano or the air cooled Fury. If nano can get to perform slightly higher than R9 290X, already a winner.

The problem with that HDMI1.4 versus HDMI2.0 at running 4k60 is on TV sets here its either at 4K30 on HDMI1.4 or 4K60 on HDMI2.0. Nothing in between. Unless there's a 55inch and above PC monitor Running at 4K60 I can use as replacement for a living room TV, it still affected the decision of those who sees Nano and Project Quantum as a viable HTPC solution but let down by AMD's lack of foresight.
*
I remember AMD demoed freesync over HDMI in computex. Not sure its 1.4 or 2.0.

Depends on the scaler and software, i do hope we can have a true 24p (24hz) experience in watching movies, and vrr when playing game consoles over HDMI via LCD TV in the future.

What the f is feel like 60fps+ when it was not? Unless he is seeing freesync monitor that can deliver smooth liquid motion below 60fps. And he need to mention that details. Not simply throwing 'feel like 60fps'.

I think you guys should chill down - It's good to have your own opinion, but do you guys seriously need to go that far?  sweat.gif

Anyway, it's good to see that Freesync is taking off:

Will Unseen83 upgrade his monitor tho this? brows.gif

Just wow. No freesync range. I open pdf file manual. No info on the VRR range. It just stated 60hz at native resolution 4k. So what's the use of freesync at fixed rate? Samsung or AMD should make this info available because this is the most important information when getting freesync monitor.

AMD just throw 9-240hz from their Freesync spec, but when it goes into market, it is not the truth.

Anyway, the Asus MG297Q Freesync IPS (tehcnically AHVA) monitor is now available at compuzone, for RM2699. Significantly cheaper thant Asus PG278Q G-sync TN monitor.
The freesync range for MG297Q 35-90hz. Still ok for me, but kinda defeat the purpose of having 144hz monitor, but not able to vrr up to that refresh rate.

So basically monitor manufacturer now is intentionally unwilling to share as crucial information as freesync range. This is very strange. It is like not willing to reveal gpu core clock when selling gpu. doh.gif

i would say 980Ti = R9 Fury X in terms of performance.

Both may have different values in other department, in terms of acoustic, power consumption, form factor etc. I would go for Fury X if im looking at the performance alone. But as im seeking different values, i would hold my purchase for new GPU.
