QUOTE(gogo2 @ Jan 23 2015, 07:30 PM) Actually i lied, according to AMD all GCN card will support DX12. QUOTE AMD officials also said nothing had changed. “All GCN-based graphics cards from AMD are going to support DirectX12,” an official told PCWorld. and according to Microsoft most modern GPU will support DX12. QUOTE “While we are not yet ready to detail everything related to DirectX12, we can share that we are working closely with all of our hardware partners to help ensure that most modern PC gaming hardware will work well with DirectX12, including; nVidia’s Maxwell, Kepler and Fermi-based GPUs, Intel’s 4th generation (and newer) Core processors and AMD’s Graphics Core Next (GCN) based GPUs. We’ll have more to share about DirectX12 at GDC in March.” QUOTE You won’t actually need a new graphics card to run Microsoft’s new DirectX 12 API, which will be baked into Windows 10 later this year. Microsoft has formally confirmed that modern GPUs will indeed work with DX12 afterall. Sauce: Don't panic! DirectX12 won't require a new graphics card after all By your logic, people should have not bought Nvidia Keplers because it didn't fully support DX11.1. Where is your source btw? |

There's no card in the market right now that is "fully" support DX12. |

My guess is there will take years for market to fully adopt DX 12 since most of games nowadays still using DX 11 or even DX 9 nowadays. The market may slowly adopt this new API or just being ignored like DX 10 |

Not sure if anyone had posted this,but..after march..
Also, some news. QUOTE the R9 380, will feature 4,096 GCN 1.2 cores, double that of its predecessor, and 4 GB of stacked HBM (high-bandwidth memory). Its mid-range chip, codenamed "Trinidad" will succeed "Curacao," and offer performance competitive to the $200-ish price-point Source: http://www.techpowerup.com/mobile/209135/a...-march-ceo.html |

QUOTE(terradrive @ Jan 15 2015, 10:36 AM) 300w is nothing. The most important thing is they are able to cool it down. @@ and nvidia still lansi about their 'low power' gpuI Oced my 290 and it can pull over 300w also no problem running all day also. Even OCed GTX 980 can pull alot of watts too. In gaming GTX 980 uses less power, but in CUDA apps even stock third party cards can be near 300w too ![]() In gaming the GTX 980 only uses around 180w. ![]() In CUDA or OPENCL, the power consumption of the third party card is 280w! Reference GTX 980 has lower wattage limit and it ran at 180 watt. Still both higher than the 165w TDP claimed by Nvidia. Source http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia...ll,3941-12.html ![]() This is reference GTX 980 which has lower wattage limit. Under Nvidia's own 25% OC pushing the core to 1377Mhz, mem to 1466Mhz, max boost to 1515Mhz under the same voltage. The GTX 980 uses slightly more power than reference R9 290X. Now 25% more for 165w of the GTX 980 should be 206w, but why does a 206w card now uses more power than R9 290X which is claimed to be 250w - 300w TDP card? The card here is for the reference card, third party GTX 980 will be chugging power just like r9 290 series once you try to overclock them. Nvidia's TDP figures is questionable while AMD's TDP figures is exaggerated. Source http://www.anandtech.com/show/8526/nvidia-...x-980-review/22 For those people who think they can run GTX 980 and GTX 970 with small PSU, they better be careful lol, especially if they get curious and try to overclock the card. They will face problems too if they try to run CUDA apps with small PSU. The bottom line is, 300w is nothing. |

QUOTE(wongkoewei @ Jan 23 2015, 07:02 PM) I see... thanks for ur advice. I do think when 4GB VRAM ever become not sufficient, the GPU itself might become obsolete already. Time for upgrade if that happen then lol~ if you got 4K lcd go for 8GB VRAM |
