Tried search but the search function wont allow me search the word dvd cause its less than 3 letters, can anyone do somethung about this? i mean dvd is such a common thing but cant search for it? Maybe limit the search engine to disallow less than 3 letters on the first word, not all...

Mine is Sony DVD-rom, I downloaded it from here http://www.firmware.fr.st/ years ago. But, at ur own risk, bcos it's very very very risky, that can end up spoil ur drive. It's done in the Windows.

If not mistaken the superdrive is a Matshita or something, i rather not mess with the firmware..

Just need perhaps the most practical region choice..

i guess most dvd i'll be watching would be *ahem* dvds, *ahem* dvds are region free?

Good choice. don't mess around with firmware. Most of the "ahem" dvds is region free, not all. So, if u so unluckly (which is not likely), and bought with region code, just throw it away if u want to, rather than take risk on the firmware.

yeah...MB uses Mashita DVD-R UJ857

flashing the firmware is usually painless.....but risk bricking your superdrive....

But recommend u to check the region code of ur DVD with software before play it, bcos some DVD player like PowerDVD is smart and can select the region code according to the DVD without asking u, but still remember, u only have 5 times.

Mine is set to Region 1 as I usually buy my DVDs from Amazon anyway.
To play region 3, just use VLC. It bypasses all that region mumbo jumbo.

civic98,
I too was asked to set the region when I put a DVD in. And, not being able to find the right solution, I just used VLC to play the DVD and it played! So, try using a third party software *grins*

VLC plays practically everything anyways blush.gif

How did you guys managed to put the dvd in without the MB vomiting it out? I know VLC can play any region type dvds but that is useless if the macbook dont want to recognise it.
