QUOTE(TristanX @ Jan 19 2015, 07:03 PM) How about these? He could have opted with a Pentium G, and use the remaining for a SSD. For word processing, I think a SSD would be a far better choice over a powerful CPU+HDD. Core i5-4460 - RM619 Asrock H97 Pro4 motherboard- RM329 Kingston 8GB DDR3-1600 HyperX Fury x1 - RM249 RM1197 total (Viewnet prices) Optional: Core i3-4150 - RM369 Xeon E3-1231 V3 (i7 in disguise) - RM829 Still haven't went all out with the specs because of no budget limit. |

QUOTE(xyz3823 @ Jan 24 2015, 11:59 PM) Any suggestion for this?? Going to buy a new set of desktop for animation design. Thanks!! Reasons why you dislike Windows 8.1? Usability of the Modern UI? [Budget] RM4000-5000 [Purpose] heavily used for 2D/3D animation design. [Hardwares that will be re-use] Speaker [Monitor resolution] high resolution, showing real colour as printed [Games & softwares that use frequently] CS6, Maya [Personal preferences] minimum rendering time. Budget include original Windows 7(coz dislike windows 8), USB 3.0, 1TB external hard disk [Location] KL If that's the case, use Classic Shell. The under-the-hood improvements are well worth it. BTW, nothing wrong going with 7, since you can upgrade to Windows 10 for free. |

QUOTE(TristanX @ Jan 25 2015, 12:24 AM) Like it or not. Microsoft no longer supports Windows 7. Somewhat incorrect. Microsoft still provides support to 7, however there is no more update/improvements in features. Only security updates will be provided. How about these? Core i7-4790K - RM1159 Coolermaster Hyper 212X - RM149 Gigabyte Z97X Gaming 5 motherboard - RM559 Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB DDR3-1600 x2 - RM498 Leadtek GTX750 Ti 2GB DDR5 - RM519 Intel 530 120GB SSD - RM259 WD Passport Ultra 1TB Extrenal 2.5" hard disk - RM234 Seasonic M12 II Evo 620W power supply - RM359 Corsair Spec 02/03 case - RM219 Dell S2415H 24" (glossy) or P2314H 23" (matte) monitor - RM699 Windows 7 Home Premium x64 OEM - RM329 RM4983 total (Viewnet prices) Note though, some newer platforms will not support 7. Intel's future platform, Skylake will likely to remove support for 7. http://wccftech.com/intel-skylake-remove-s...platform-specs/ However, TS has the ability to upgrade to Windows 10 for free. BTW, I think Windows 8.1 is a fantastic OS, even though there is a lot of debate surrounding Modern UI. |

QUOTE(mugenz @ Feb 2 2015, 09:58 AM) hi guys, Which online MMO? I currently playing online mmorpg, suffering very bad fps when raid. Its only 8fps worst time. 1. How do you know if the game uses more CPU or GPU? 2. My plan to upgrade due to budget constraint only got 1.2k first. Option A, Upgrade my old 2GB 6950 (Reference card) to 970 or R290x. I gaming with 1080p only. Only play online mmo. Option B, Upgrade processor from I5-2400 to I5-4690 + RM300 Mobo. Which option of upgrade will help to increase FPS for my gaming. Planning to slowly upgrade. Note that most online MMOs (most notably WoW) tend to favor strong single threaded performance. You might want to consider overclocking your CPU, which is not viable at this point. Edit: 8K posts? This post has been edited by chocobo7779: Feb 2 2015, 11:01 AM |

QUOTE(paul5263 @ Feb 8 2015, 09:04 AM) Hi all, need recommend here for my friend. Are you able to buy from Australian retailers? Evga hadron air case + 500w gold 80+ psu I5 4690k 16gb ram Evga gtx 970 sc Msi z97i gaming mobo Samsung evo840 250gb ssd Wd 1tb drive Here is his list Budget bout aud 1500 / 4k myr There's no official distributor of EVGA products here, and therefore you'll have to import them elsewhere (which is very expensive). 16GB RAMs are not needed as well. The 840 EVOs are currently plagued by a read speed bug (the fix from Samsung solved the issue partially, with varying results). I'd suggest you to look for alternatives, for example the Samsung 840 Pro/850 EVO/Crucial MX100/Intel 530 instead. |

QUOTE(TristanX @ Feb 7 2015, 09:54 PM) Go for Seasonic S12 II 620W at RM299 or M12 II Evo 520W (modular) at RM279. These PSUs can last very long. Source? Please do not use the MLC vs TLC debacle since they are pretty much irrelevant to the average user unless the user intends to do lots of writes on the drive (for example heavy use of virtualization and large video/photo editing)... Plextor is faster but 3 years warranty. Intel has higher grade hardware and it is 5 years warranty. This post has been edited by chocobo7779: Feb 8 2015, 09:41 AM |

QUOTE(TristanX @ Feb 8 2015, 09:44 AM) Who says it is irrelevant? What if the user is heavy on the disk usage? Do not assume the user is just average. I think you forgot this? http://techreport.com/review/27436/the-ssd...aking-petabytes http://techreport.com/review/25889/the-ssd...nt-500tb-update Even the 840 EVO (which uses TLC NAND) can withstand 500TB worth of writes. FYI, 500TB of writes translate to writing 140GB of data continuously over 10 years. This post has been edited by chocobo7779: Feb 8 2015, 09:50 AM |

QUOTE(TristanX @ Feb 8 2015, 10:08 AM) Oh, I forgot to mention that 500TB of writes actually mean writing 140GB worth of data everyday, over the 10 year lifespan. I don't think he will reach that much of usage... Even so, 10 years of lifespan is incredibly long for a SSD. Even so, he will likely to fill up the drive way before hitting the 140GB per day limit. QUOTE(biggerman88 @ Feb 12 2015, 11:55 AM) Wanted to ask sifu. It's too old for now, but the FX platform is pretty competitive so far. The 990FX Killer is a decent board as well, and it should be able to handle that monster without much issues. My old friend offered me Asrock Killer 990 + FX8350 for about RM900. This was like 2 month back and the combo was about 6 month old then. Should i have taken the deal. Or is the amd plat too outdated now. Or maybe i should have counter for better price? |

QUOTE(ngkhanmein @ Feb 12 2015, 11:58 AM) IMO, if TS has a hard budget of RM900, I think the FX-8350 + 990FX board is a decent deal. If TS opted for Intel's platform, he can only afford an i5 + H97 board. Bear in mind that the FX-8350 is a pretty good CPU, even though it might be somewhat old. Not to mention the multithreading architecture makes it ideal for games and applications that take advantage of more CPU cores. This post has been edited by chocobo7779: Feb 12 2015, 12:15 PM |
