@Minecrafter

The PSU he has is a gigabyte 420.

The build you suggested was

AMD FX8320 3.5GHz RM569
MSI 970 Gaming RM409
Leadtek GTX970 Hurricane 4GB GDDR5 RM1299
Corsair Carbide Spec-03 RM219
CM Hyper 212X RM149
Total:RM2645

What psu should he get? We can cross out the cpu cooler since he is not looking to overclock just right now. He can buy the cooler next time. Also, what about changing the leadtek 970 to the gainward reference 970 card? Is that good enough?

Thanks again
*
Yeah, can get Gainward GTX970 Reference at RM1099. nod.gif Try getting it from Techview,AFAIK,Lingloong ran OOS. doh.gif Same goes to IdealTech. laugh.gif

This VGA quietly good because it has 3 fan n it spec.
i really hope this VGA not broken n can hold heat atleast for 3 years hehehe
i hear ATI Radeon not good enough if we compare with nvidia, it is true?

Umm typo from me. doh.gif Name is Sapphire. tongue.gif

It's now called AMD.Not really,if you compare,let's say,R9 290 vs GTX970,of course the latter will win.But if you compare the R9 270 vs GTX660,the former will win.

Different GPUs have their performance differences. nod.gif Not all AMD Radeon R9/R7 GPUs are weaker than NVidia GTX750 series up to GTX900 series. tongue.gif

Hi,

I'm interested in the below spec and planning to get it pretty soon. Hopefully it will fall below 3.3k

1. So, which CPU is better value/performance?
2. Any performance difference between different brand for GPU?

CPU: i5 4670k/4690k or Xeon E3-1231 V3
GPU: GTX970 (Your recommendation)
M/B: Asrock Z97E-ITX or MSI Z97i
RAM: 8gb (Your recommendation)
HDD: Any 1gb/2gb 7200 rpm
PSU: Thermaltake Power Supply Smart SE 630W (SPS-630M)*
Case:Thermaltake Casing iTX CORE V1

*Any recommendation on semi-modular PSU at least 600w
*
1.The Xeon E3-1231 V3..not overclockable though.
2.Really tiny. tongue.gif

Intel Xeon E3-1231 V3 3.4GHz RM899
Asrock B85M-ITX RM299
Gainward GTX970 4GB GDDR5 RM1099
Kingston Value RAM 8GB DDR3 1600MHz RM219
WD Caviar Blue 1TB RM184
Seasonic M12II Evo 520W 80+ Bronze Fully Modular RM279/620W version at Rm359
Noctua NH-L9i RM169
Total:RM3138/3218
CPU Cooler is from IdealTech, the rest are from Viewnet@LYP. smile.gif

Are you going for an ITX setup? It costs a bit more. tongue.gif

Not sure how much the casing costs, haven't heard of it before, plus not sure which shop have it. hmm.gif

Also,520W PSU i suggested is enough for Gtx970.Are you gaming on 1080p?

The cooler having subpar performance, not exactly much more impressive than stock cooler.

If I am to build an ITX build, I will opt for Prolimatech Samuel 17, much more superior performance and flexible fan configuration.
*
There's a problem though. The Xeon is slightly hot, better get an aftermarket cooler..and there's not much choice for ITX coolers like 60mm and below, if you've a small casing.. sad.gif Get a watercooler? hmm.gif

Hi guys,

Just came back from Lowyat. Really crowded today and viewnet even run out of cpu.
Got the best quote from Jayacom for the specs i wanted at 3.5k w/out the case which is over my budget. Guess i'll change to xeon + m/b to H97  or similar will be cheaper i think. However, the seller suggested taking at least 600w PSU for better stability as 520w would be minimum requirement.

Thanks for all your suggestion.
*
600W?Even a good quality 500W PSU is enough for the GTX970..but good quality 500W PSUs are rare or even not available here.

The options for good quality PSUs are limited at Jayacom,AFAIK..since the price list doesn't show Seasonic PSUs.

Thank you for your feedback...

I know, but I'm going to SLI sometime in the future, and H97/H87 doesn't support SLI.
I got the i7-4790 for less than RM900... (matching my budget for the E3-1231 v3 anyways)
As for the Xigmatek Vector 650W, it's 80+ Silver rated and cost less than RM250... can't go wrong there!
*
Seasonic S12II 620W PSU beats the PSU that you've.For the quality of the PSU,we take a look at its component quality etc.

You should've asked before buying the parts, you know.. tongue.gif

Btw, is overclocking a gpu easy to do?
*
From my experience on overclocking GPU so far,it's kinda easy IMO.Overclocked my R7 265 from its stock core and memory clock to 1100MHz and 1600MHz,before suffering a few screen freezing while benchmarking with Unigine Valley(Or Heaven, can't remember. laugh.gif ) in which i reduced 50MHz each.

Personally,i'd not suggest overclocking it for gaming or other things except for benchmarking. tongue.gif The card at its stock clocks is good already, and it might shorten its lifespan..correct me if i'm wrong on that part. hmm.gif

You can also look-up to Austin Evans' tutorial on how to overclock GPU. wink.gif
