QUOTE(schoe @ May 21 2025, 05:57 PM)
I was charged the annual fee for my HSBC TravelOne card. I called customer service on February 25 to request a waiver. The agent informed me that I didn’t meet the waiver criteria but offered to submit a request on my behalf, with the condition that I pay the SST first.

I expressed my concern and told them I wouldn’t pay the SST unless the fee was waived first, as I couldn’t trust that the waiver would be approved afterward. Since then, I received no updates from HSBC.

Today, I called again and was told that the waiver request had been rejected. The agent offered an alternative: pay RM450 for both the primary and supplementary cards, and in return, HSBC would credit me 80,000 reward points.

I responded that this offer is essentially purchasing points, which I do not agree with. She then told me the card cannot be cancelled unless all outstanding fees are paid. I said that if HSBC insists on this, I will consider reporting the matter to Bank Negara Malaysia. Only then did she say she would "help check" if cancellation is possible.

anyone has any experience on this?
*
you are not the first one. hsbc love to charge fees and u cannot cancel till pay outstanding.
a lot of people hit this issue

HSBC is the most crap bank I have experienced so far. They forced me to pay for the AF and SST when I didn't spend a single cent after those transactions were charged. Long battle with them and nearly got BNM to interfere, luckily they waived everything and including the late charges. I did have "1" in my CCRIS to be honest but I had cancelled all HSBC cards so no more in record.

the record will stay for a year after card termination

I Have been using the HSBC Amanah Platinum card for few years.

Last month suddenly got a called from HSBC saying that i'm eligible for the new Visa Signature card. Tried to say no, however she insisted that i tried the card first.

Now i have received the new card in my mailbox. If i didn't activated it, i shouldn't have to pay the AF and SST, right?

What is better for this visa signature card anyway?
*
certain transaction got point and lounge access.
Applepay 1x.
Shopee -1x
Lazada - 5x
Oversea - 8x but got limit

Planning to cancel this card soon

Yeah, when i tried to decline, they keep insisted for me to try it, said i can use this card to access the airport lounge. LOL i can’t even remember when was the last time i’ve been to airport.

So wise choice i just keep this card unactivated? Yes? Any problem if i keep it unactivate?
*
i dont think it will wait for u to activate after long period. some bank auto activate. dont use better cancel

Fortunately all of these transactions have now disappeared from my transaction list. If you've used any of these merchants before, you know that none of their legitimate charges appear like this. There was no authorization requested on the HSBC app as well.

The fraud transaction on my supplementary card still shows as "PENDING", so hopefully that disappears soon as well... Looks like to a merchant that accepts PayPal payments... I'm mostly annoyed because I was supposed to book some flights/hotels over the weekend and now I don't have a card to book with... and also now I have a significant amount of my credit blocked for no reason  sweat.gif

I posted this mainly to see if anyone else has seen this kind of fraud (hopefully not)... but definitely suggest everyone keeps a close eye on their transaction list.. because I think a lot of people would ignore the transactions if they "appeared" like they originated from merchants that YOU yourself use regularly.

hsbc cc - i freeze it all the time as encountered fraud before. no point leave it open and deal with this fraud case. always have more than 1 cc. especially hsbc blocked my cc when i'm at oversea

Good news: All charges on my primary card no longer appear on my HSBC app now.

Bad news: The single fraud charge on my supplementary card posted... It is "PayPal *MERCHANTNAME" for MYR 24k.

Worst news: An additional charge for "PayPal *MERCHANTNAME" for MYR 24k appeared today and shows as PENDING. Charge is for the same day that the card was cancelled (6th July). Weird that it didn't appear until today (11th July).
