PPTP and L2TP have been known for unstable connections. If you guys interested in testing OpenVPN, i can let you try my lousy home pc streamyx connection. Just for knowledge, nothing behind it.

No, it's linux system. Just don't tinker with my porn.
First, you go to www.openvpn.net, download and install the windows version. You might need to restart PC. Next, download and unpack the demo.zip attached. All files inside demo.zip must reside in same folder. If you have installed OpenVPN and restarted your PC, you should be able to right click the file demo.ovpn and start it. *Only* one client can connect at a time. After connected, try access http://10.8.0.1. I haven't tried the http but it should work. Btw, i reserve the right to shutdown the service anytime. Ok, I gotta back home now. QUOTE(vult2res @ Nov 10 2006, 06:28 PM) how do u use this vpn thingy?...i've followed the steps u describe and i only get a text message when i access http://10.8.0.1 If you can get text when browsing http://10.8.0.1 that means it's working. Easy right?Oh btw, my upload speed should be around 30-40 Kbps. VPN connection require more data transfer, so may be you'll get around 20-30 Kbps only. Try download the freestyler.gz, i wanna know how fast you can get it. This post has been edited by virtual: Nov 10 2006, 08:41 PM |

QUOTE(Tachikoma @ Nov 11 2006, 01:48 PM) Well, I'm not sure about PPTP but with OpenVPN you can either choose to route all traffic through the VPN or not. If all traffic is routed through VPN then connection would be slow because traffic like http will also be encrypted. |

QUOTE(btfan @ Nov 13 2006, 01:04 PM) Err what's the difference? Looks like download without OpenVPN can achieve a bit better speed. BTW what's the difference between OpenVPN and other paid VPN services? http://openvpn.net. It's right on the main page. The test above is peformed on http hosted with streamyx line. Not on torrent network. Look at previous page, you'll know what i've been doing and trying to achieve. Duh, so hard to gather ppl who is willing to shell out a bit for better streamyx connection. |

PM replied.
As nobody is interested to shell out usd10 / month, may be we can gather more people. Let's say 30 people than the cost can be brought down to 200/25 = usd7. Come to think of it, i actually haven't counted the price for setup fee. To waive the setup fee, i have to subscribe for 1 year straight away. Sigh. |

QUOTE(Nucleon @ Nov 14 2006, 05:37 PM) Kinda little bit exp ... if USD 3 to 4 maybe still okies... btw which VPN company that u subscribe to? or u plan to setup a server oversea and host urself? No choice, the dedicated server is expensive. I plan to setup one but let's just wait till next year. If they lift up the cap then no point for it. |

QUOTE(Nucleon @ Nov 15 2006, 12:59 AM) Lol ... Dedicated to oversea? that is very very very exp... Hmmm Heard that Tmnet CEO stepping down? Hopefully things got better? or just might get worse... I am totally agree with u setting up server. In a way I myself almost wanted to ask my friend in Aus to do so too. However , remember this if ur IP is fixed, and somehow tmnet or oversea IP provider found out u abusing the network , they might just banned u ? Yeah, especially the unmetered bandwidth one. I'm not abusing the network, i'm providing VPN service. I don't care and shouldn't know what my clients going to do with the VPN. In fact, that's the secure and anonymous policy. I already asked the server provider regarding if clients using the VPN connection with torrent traffic. If TMNet ban the server, I'll try to consult cyberlaw people before going further. |

QUOTE(Chartry @ Nov 15 2006, 04:18 PM) virtual u can count me in too and for those leechers out there, please seed Great, so far only 3 people.edit:why not rent a private server and use it to download whatever torrent we want and then we direct download from the server. That way most probably will violate the server provider's TOS. They don't want to have any illegal files stored in the server. |

It is not recommended to have too many connections as already been warned by BT clients. The problem might not noticeable at first and slowly takes up your system's memory. It will hurt your puny router's processor as well. If you're sharing the connection with housemate, have to consider them as well.

I *might* start a VPN service soon. You guys might be able to get it as low as RM 22 / month. However, still need some experimentation.
