This HP Beats Special Edition 15-p016au Notebook PC(K2N84PA) comes with quad core processor , 8GB RAM , and FULLHD Touch screen, which sold at RM1999. Is it a good deal?
I cant find any laptop with Intel processor priced below RM2.6K , but it's equipped with a AMD quad core processor. Is AMd good?
Is HP cooling system good ? i own a acer I3 laptop , not satisfied with the cooling system.
Most of the ASus laptop below RM2.6k with i7 only comes with 4gb ram . I prefer 8gb of ram

Amd a8-5545m is on par with intel i3-4010u. No big difference with your previous laptop.

I have the same dilemma as you two weeks ago until I decided to buy Acer Nitro V last week. I did check out this laptop at Harvey Norman, its not bad. And if you buy from Harvey Norman, they free printer and etc (you check yourself at their website).

Trust me, if your budget is exactly RM2,000 and want 15.6 screen size, I think this laptop is the best for the bucks.
I've done so many research, and I can't find any better laptop for that price. Full HD, touch screen, 8GB RAM, have graphic card, and with backlit keyboard. The only downside for some people is AMD processor. I've never use AMD processor, I can't comment about it, but a lot of my friends don't like it. They said their processor did burned last time during 2008 (bought) till 2010 (burned). Now maybe AMD improve, I don't know.

if compare with i7-4500u and i5-4200 u , is the AMD processor aforementioned better than i7-4500u and i5-4200 u? both i7-4500u and i5-4200 u only have 2 cores processor. But AMD GT 4 CORES.

It's like comparing an i5 quad core with an i7 dual core.. i7 will do better IMO

Edit: Ignore this post.. as the info is probably incorrect

About the processor, it depends on what usage. If you playing games, then i5 might be better. Although the A8-5545M has 4 cores, they are rather weak in overall processing power compared to the dual core i5-4200u. For general usage, A8-5545M will be fine. Correct me if I'm wrong.

As for the reliability of HP (or any brand name), it can be hit or miss depending on the specific model. I never had experience with a HP laptop. I have only owned IBM, Acer and Asus model laptop.

Actually I think my example is not appropriate.. Sorry about that.. I'll make changes to it

It all depends on what kind of thing you're doing..

Eg: if you're doing encoding work, quad core is better, if you're playing game, dual core is better (most game used only single thread)

i5 quad core w/ lower clock speed (GHZ) is better than i7 dual core w/ higher clock speed IMO, as starting from i5, there's turbo mode which can increase the clock speed when there's only 2 core is used..
It's quite technical and I'm not so sure though.. I just roughly know about it.. So ask other sifu to get a correct answer sweat.gif

P/S: Please correct me if I gave the incorrect info

i owned an Acer desktop and I have used the Acer laptop before. The desktop is not reliable IMO . Acer laptop has poor ventilating system . I can feel the hot temp even when i am doing simple task like editting document , playing music , light browsing .

Lol.. actually if you're not a fan in bass then you hardly can know how good it is..

My illegear z5 do come with a sub woofer + 2 front speaker.. the sound produce is indeed better and the low frequency bass is better than my old hp dm4 pavilion

Do note that i7 in 2.6k range is mostly U series.. which is dual core not quad core..
For 2.6k range i think you need to ask a few dealer whether they can offer you i7 with 8gb ram or not..

I think there is.. like Dell inspiron.. find @myway
he got a lot kang tao XD

Actually, most laptop comes with dual ram slot which means you can add 4gb ram stick into 2nd slot.

Note that dual core intel i3/i5/i7 support hyperthreading.
Each core can do 2 threads at the same time, so basically it can work like a quad core.

Cons: lower clock speed when hyperthreading.

is there any laptop has more than 2 ram slot? so the maximum ram that the laptop can support depends on the laptop itself , assuming all laptop has 2 ram slot? i.e. laptop A and laptop b has 2 ram slots, but laptop a can support up to 32gb ram , but laptop B doesn't ? Correct me if i'm wrong.

let's say if there are 2 CPU, one is quad core 2.5ghz, the another is dual core 3.0ghz. the dual core 3.0ghz support hyper-threading , while the first one doesnt . Which CPU will perform better?

Most laptop come with 2 ram slot.. mostly support up to 16gb (2x8gb dual channel)

Seldom laptop support 32gb or abv, if it support, it can be 2x16 or 4x8 (16gb single ram is very exp as it's mostly for server / workstation)

It's preferable to have 2x8gb dual channel than a single 16gb single channel ram as dual channel is faster..

Also note that there is no need for you to go to so extreme as in 16gb or 32gb ram.. 2.6k laptop with so much ram won't do much good as you got a slow processor..

And also note that if you want to upgrade the ram yourself, make sure you read the T&C as most big brand will void your warranty once the backlid / back cover is unscrewed and removed.

Both quad core and dual core support multi-threading.. if not whats the use of multi core hmm.gif
Eg: dual core 3.0ghz will do better in gaming as most game program just use 1 core to run it..

I think 2 slot is enough already. People always go with 2x 4gb ram or 2x 8gb ram. More than that, you may need a desktop. Dunno whether 32gb is possible or not.

~some previous hp and dell (inspiron 3000 series) have 1 slot only. So better add ram on the spot while buying.

As ashraf095 mentioned.. we're talking about intel i series.. so it does support hyper threading.. (Except you wanna compare to those very old processor which most laptop won't use in this era icon_idea.gif )
For others then probably no..

Yup.. 32gb is possible with laptop.. Just very exp..
And no point getting so big ram for laptop, not like you gonna do AI training data stuff in a laptop.. mind as well go for a workstation/desktop

Just remember getting a better cpu rather than more ram.. High ram capacity w/ slow processor, your laptop performance still is slow smile.gif

I am thinking of getting this laptop too. But I am a bit worry about the after sales service of HP. Anyone know, is it reliable? I hope it is not like Asus rclxub.gif As this is my first time thinking of purchasing HP i am worry bout the product too sweat.gif
Mostly, I will be using this laptop to listen to music, stream movie and assignments (word, power point). Video and photo editing will be a plus too. I have a budget of exactly 2k. I hope this is worth it?
So does the speed of AMD Quad-Core A8-5545M APU with Radeon HD 8510G Graphics (1.7 GHz, 4 MB cache) almost on par with i-5? Sorry, I am a newbie here. Just started reading on laptop yesterday. unsure.gif

For HP I think the after sale is okay according from my personal experience.. not so good not so bad..

Last time I sent my HP dm4 Pavilion to claim warranty for 2 times
First time is wifi card problem and 2nd time is screen issue.. both take about 1 week or so..

It may be very long.. but at least they didn't complaint much or pusing pusing.. str8 away provide me a replacement..

If you really afraid of after sale issue, get Dell.. confirm no problem.. Dell is well known for their after sale service.. RM2k I think can get a decent laptop with i5..

I bought my HP dm4 pavilion with exactly 2k w/ i5 and 4gb ram..

P/s: 2k budget laptop maybe be able to do light video editing, but intense 1 sure can't

It's dead now.. haha
It's a 4 years old laptop.. no more warranty.. and I dropped it this year.. the screen cover lid got a crack and my screen is now all pink colour.. the wire got damaged.. since warranty is over i just get a new laptop (illegear z5)

The laptop is pretty decent, but no gaming.. cuz the performance is not that good.. noob gc.. The machine also feel hot even under normal load because i didn't clean the fan dust and repaste the thermal paste for 4 years.. lol
(4 years didn't maintain my laptop)

It's a pretty ok laptop as I didn't do any maintenance for the pass 4 years

Trust me, if your budget is exactly RM2,000 and want 15.6 screen size, I think this laptop is the best for the bucks.
I've done so many research, and I can't find any better laptop for that price. Full HD, touch screen, 8GB RAM, have graphic card, and with backlit keyboard. The only downside for some people is AMD processor. I've never use AMD processor, I can't comment about it, but a lot of my friends don't like it. They said their processor did burned last time during 2008 (bought) till 2010 (burned).  Now maybe AMD improve, I don't know.
