20-25mil for a RB? Think a CB with authority would be more useful, assuming we are not going to bother with a DM/CM. Right now what we need is someone to organize the back-line so that guys like Evans and Smalling can get screamed at when they start to daydream, and told what to do when they're unsure and about to flip flop or panic. Those guys are not "brainy" or the most confident types, so they'll do much better if there is a leader to order them around. That's why their best performances were alongside Rio or Vidic.

edit: Assuming the price for both is around the same, Clyne is English and younger, so in terms of years ahead he looks the better choice... but most important question is, performance wise how big is the gap between them?

If they're roughly on par in terms of performance then obviously Clyne. If Coleman is clearly better then definitely Coleman. Why? The only reason we would spend 20mil on a RB now is to have someone who can come in and immediately do a better job than Rafael, who would obviously be benched or sold if we're spending that much on a RB that is his age or younger.

The media rubbish came out because Hummels said that BvB home form has been ok, but away form has been pathetic. Instantly media used that and spun the whole OMGHEWANTSAMOVENOW.

Vlaar would be kinda a stopgap option (29, and not like he has been amazing.. he is decent and experienced), and Villa want 12mil. Not sure about it at that price...

Midfield we are ok for now, but Carrick is 33. 1 strong CM signing would be good for the times to come.

At least 1 more CM. Blind and Herrera both look good, but if 1 gets injured................... (and both have already been injured for a chunk of time this season). Keep in mind this season we have a lot less games than usual, won't always be like that.

Who? Blind, Fellaini, Carrick, Herrera all been injured for at least a few games so far. Youngster mana? Can't say it's age issue, Wilson, Blackett, McNair have all had multiple appearances this season.

Wonder if our young midfielders are in comparison not good enough or not ready to be promoted.

Or maybe he wanted to change tactics a bit and have Rooney support RvP instead of having RvP support Falcao or Falcao and RvP as twin strikers.

Or maybe he wanted to pull Falcao out to minimize chances of an injury, since Falcao is only now looking like he has recovered from his injury woes, has played a fair bit in recent games over the festive season, and tiredness increases risk of injury.
Not in January. Why?
1) Juventus in CL, will be even LESS interested in selling or will jack up the price even more.
2) His form for Juventus has been shit recently, in fact one recent game he had career low stats (I linked it in the last few pages if you're bothered to look).
3) He hasn't really fully recovered his form and fitness, hence #2. The price paid for rushing back from a serious injury to play in the WC. Kinda like RvP earlier this season, but worse since a midfielders performance is not as weighed towards goals as a striker?

Ironically, the 3 big names that were linked to us over the summer (Vidal, Hummels, Strootman) have all been struggling this season due to injury, recovering from injury, bad form, or some combination of the 3. That's why I doubt any of them will join us in January, even if LVG is willing to gamble enough to sign expensive players that are not doing well. Summer makes more sense for all parties, gives the players 6 more months to find form and fitness, less disruption for the selling club, blablabla

Dunno, think all things considered, Strootman > Vidal in terms of price and potential years of service.

If you're gonna fork out so much money for a midfielder, then surely you'd want one that can play at the top for longer? I know midfielders can sometimes do well in their mid 30s or later (Scholes, Giggs, Carrick being our own examples), but those midfielders typically base their game less on high energy and relentless running, more on positioning/passing/vision.

Vidal might have a good passing range in his locker, but his combination of relentless energy and mobility are also really huge factors to his game. Those 2 things typically fade with age, so Vidal probably has 3 years left at his best, assuming he doesn't get waylaid by injuries.

Considering the age of Rooney and RvP, Falcao as a permanent signing only makes sense IF he can hit form as a goalscorer like he showed in Portugal and Spain OR if LVG doesn't intend to play Rooney as a striker. Otherwise we might as well pass on Falcao and look to someone a bit younger (mid 20s). Gonna be interesting to see how this pans out over the season.

If the next player United buy is not a defender then I dunno what to say. Shaw & Rafael are like tofu. But generally I have not been impressed by Shaw. I think he's a flop. 

I guess this formation needs to have good defenders for it to work. Not our panicky defender.
