Outsourcing is a bad idea most of the time. For companies, imagine your balls being gripped in a vice by another party. Do you think the outsourcing company has your best interests at heart, or their own best interest at heart.

For IT professionals working for an outsourcing company as a contract staff, there won't even be a career progression, let alone career development. Training, yah... that's something that you get while you're actually doing the work. Pay rise?? Get the f*ck out of here!

Looks like the good times at Shell has come to an end.

I think working for a big IT company the professionals have much better career options. Most of the outsourcing companies sell the skills of the people. If there is no relevant benefits (i.e. training, reasonable pay rise, career progression etc) people will leave and the service provider will be out of business in a fairly short time.
