What do u guys think of playing the latest sequel of a game without playing the games before them ?

You know games like DMC4 or MGS4 on the playstation,Resident Evil, or maybe Halo 3 something like that?
I've been thinking of getting DMC4 or MGS4(when it comes out la of course) but i didnt play DMC2 and DMC3 (only the first one), and i've never played any MGS games. Most of these kind of games are related right ? Meaning the story is the continuation of the previous game.

Lets say im going to play DMC3, do u think it's possible to know what happened in DMC2 ?

when i first played MGS,i didnt know anything about it.
didnt read any reviews/previews,didnt play the prequels,nothing.

but my interest grew upon finishing the game,and the rest is history

you dont HAVE to know much(if anything at all) to be able to play these games..

Do you have a PS2? You might as well play these earlier games while you wait. I have no desire to get DMC4, because 3 turned my thumbs into mush. Way too hardcore.

Yeah i have a ps2. Currently playing winning eleven 10 and some old games hehe. The thing is im lazy to play those games, but i want to know the story hahaha

haha. Game is like story. You need to know what was this and that. If cannot play the previous game then try to know what was this and that. However, games like Winning Eleven or any yang takde story.. takper la!!

this is plain simple . u miss the story and the new action mode .. so if u lompat terus dmc 1 to dmc 4 u miss the whats the shit happen on the dmc2 and dmc3 .. after all got WIKI to explain the stuff if u want to know the dmc2 and dmc3 stories ..

yeah but then ill miss all the cutscenes. I guess ill find some free time to play the games.

currently playing Xenosaga 3 without playing the previous 2 but would find some time to do so. I'll just assume those 2 as prequels XD

storyline is not everything....gameplay is.
i have been following the Devil May Cry series from the start and frankly the gameplay is what kept me hooked on the series. That's why i prefer DMC1 because there were far less cutscenes than DMC3 so i had more time to play than watch. sometimes less is more....

fighting an inferno giant spider is OUT OF THIS WORLD.

HACK quadrology wasted my time. should have played 3 and 4 already considered enuff. Damnit

Well you don't really have to play DMC2 to understand the story because:

1. It's the worst of the series in term of gameplay. Don't let it spoil your mood of playing DMC series.
2. DMC4 happens after DMC1 and before DMC2.
3. Is that guy who knows nothing except flipping coin really Dante?(fyi, the father of DMC called him Enzo in Viewtiful Joe)

thn lets talk about RE 1,2,3,4 or silent hill 1,2,3, 4(not really related)..

all these are i think better played in sequence being tat all the clues/notes/ and characters are inter related. there are many more other games tat has a LONG STORY line which i think is cool.

like i see many other people play FF7,8,9,10 and any other RPG games.. thy skip through the tag lines or story board.. thn wats the point of playing!?!?! i really dont understand thm..

for me IMO story line is important..

actually its up to u... if u are seriusly passionate about the game, then u might wanna play all the pass series before the latest on... but if u play for gameplay , then dont bother

I didn't play Shadow Hearts 1 but when on to play Shadow Hearts 2 didn't regret it at all.

Storyline is everything to me. That's the first thing I look for in a game.

So yeah, I wont play any sequel if I haven't played the previous games in the series.

meh, depends... if i have access for the previous game in the series, ill buy it... but if i dont, ill just skip it...

like valkyrie profile2, MGS3 and shadow hearts 2&3...

i skipped all the previous games of them just cuz i dont have a PSX anymore(tht and i dont feel like playing shadow hearts 1 @__@)

i think shadow heart onli got 2 and both of them are on ps2.

For RPG like xenosaga i guess you better play the previous series else will result in head scratching =p

i didnt play dmc 1 nor 2 and jump straight in dmc3 and u still know whats going on but mostly i am in it for its gameplay~

but xenosaga 2 very sucks.

There are 3 Shadow Hearts games for the PS2. Not counting the Director's Cut of SH2.

SH1, SH2 and SH : The New World (or something like that.)

For those of you who haven't played any off them, get them NAO! (I highly recommend SH2)
