Take only profit generated during past 12 months.

how to know whats the profit generated in 2014 only ah?

take the total current holdings -  total holdings of 2013?
*
U got keep record of profit (in Ringgit figure) as at 31 Dec 2013 or not?

If no...then tricky a bit sweat.gif

hmm.gif

Your portfolio VALUE as at 1 Jan 2014 is your (reset) COST for year of 2014.

Portfolio value as at 31 Dec 2014 - (Portfolio value as at 1 Jan 2014 + Total amounts invested/(withdrawn) during 2014) = Profit for 2014

E.g. portfolio value as at 1 Jan 2014 is RM10,000
During 2014 u total/net pumped in RM3,000
At 31 Dec 2014 your portfolio value is RM15,000
Profit during year 2014 is thus RM2,000

ROI = RM2,000 / (RM10,000 + RM3,000/2) x 100% = 17.4%

Full year ROI... if you have excel, use the XIRR formula...

31/12/2013  (10,000)

31/12/2014  11,000  10.00%

The above figures are in cells A1, B1, A10, B10 and C10.
C10 has this formula: =XIRR(B1:B10,A1:A10,0.01)

- what is important is the total values of the portfolio at 31st Dec.
- Any new investments and withdrawals, add the dates and their values in between the above figures.
- Investments are in negative values

This is the most scientific/accurate way of calculating nod.gif

My method is the more simplistic one. icon_rolleyes.gif

My decision in investing into reit fund/reits has bcome frm uncertain to more uncertain

http://www.theedgemarkets.com/my/article/k...ile-bond-market

Furthermore i got bond funds, n my kenanga growth + eastspring sc not recovering much, hmm pain
*
Like I've said before, if u hold long enough, the dividends will be more than enough to cover for your capital losses.

But then, u still have to pick good REITs, some "bad" REITs suffer capital losses that dividends can barely cover...see ARREIT and AMFIRST...see their 5-year chart. sweat.gif

That fund trades futures/options linked to energy sector, which is SUPER volatile

This kind of fund is like...u invest RM100,000 in it, they park maybe RM90,000 in bonds, so that after X no. of years, u get back RM100,000 from bonds as a capital preservation. Then the balance RM10,000 go gamble at Genting they go trade futures/options, which can give up to or even more than 100% capital gain/loss.

Of course market is expecting greater stimulus from the Chinese government but Chinese government may not listen to this tune as their master plan is to perform economic re-balance by tolerating slower growth.

They may concentrate on light stimulus or targeted stimulus.

China market still offers good growth potential! Buy! biggrin.gif

Just updated my portfolio with November fact sheets from CIMB-Principal and Eastspring Investments (Affin Hwang and Aberdeen Islamic yet to publish their November fact sheets shakehead.gif )...

CIMB Global Titans deployed most of their cash during November, now my US+Europe+Japan equity exposure have increased to 30% (finally!).

My current equity funds allocation:

31% Eastspring Investments Global Emerging Markets

17% Hwang Select Asia Quantum
8% Hwang Select Opportunity
11% CIMB Asia Pacific Dynamic Income

17% Aberdeen Islamic World Equity
16% CIMB Global Titans

As at 30th December valuation, my UT portfolio gained 4.6% (only doh.gif ) during 2014.

An interesting point to note - fund size of CIMB Asia Pac Dynamite Income have gone up to...RM1 BILLION sweat.gif

Can I ask why you choose HSO instead of KGF?? Mind I asking, trying to learn..

1. Same fund house as Ponzi 1.0, so can switch freely
2. Can invest up to 30% offshore. KGF cannot, 100% Bolehland

Surprisingly it's EPF approved for EPF MIS.
*
The 30% cap is due to wanting to comply with EPF regulations!

Another similar fund would be RHB-OSK Equity Trust but cannot get into EPF MIS, cos it invests up to 50% in Asia ex Japan.

EPF cap is 30% offshore.
