Just went to an orthodontist, asked for expected price for both kinds of braces. Traditional and self ligating. For traditional is quite decent priced, rm4600. But for self ligating, he said that it might cost rm9000(so expensive?). He seems to insist me to get traditional braces, and seems to think that there's not much difference between self ligating and traditional and want me to go with traditional because it's cheaper. He even explained to be that there's not much difference for braces wearer, but benefits the doctor himself because less chair time.

So I'm not sure that he's saying that self ligating cost rm9000 just to scare me off and want me to get cheaper traditional braces or that he really don't know about the current price because not many of his patient requested self ligating lol

Btw after i insisted on self ligating, he said that he will try to check up on price, and it depends on the materia and brand some sort that affect the price

Traditional bracers: dentist need to bend wire to move teeth. More skill dependent. Usually only orthodontist are trained to do this. More chairside time.

Self ligating: your teeth will move to follow the shape of the wire. Less chairside time. Apparently less painful. Normal dentist, trained in this orthodontics use this system very often.

I think your orthodontist didn't stock up on self ligating system. That's why he needs to order the set (it's expensive). Maybe he's a dinosaur orthodontist who hasn't kept up to date with the latest systems.

Hi guys i think i am having an overbite problem. My two front teeth are slightly protruded. I lost the front teeth after a fall when i was a child and when they grew back they became protruded. May i know how much apporoximately to get an invisalign braces for my issue? How is its effectiveness compared to the common metal braces? Which one will be more effective for my case? Any recommended and affordable to get my treatment? I have attached a picture of my teeth below. Any advice would be highly appreciated smile.gif thank you.

Invisalign in my limited experience, are a hit or miss thing.

It's comfortable, looks good, less hassle to visit the dentist. But it's difficult to control. However simple cases can be done easily with invisalign.

Putting on brackets gives the dentist more control over the movement of your teeth.

HELP!!
I have a severe underbite and wiling to go through a surgery.
Does Anyone have any experience in this or recommend any maxillofacial surgeon ?

And What is the procedure that I have to go through?

Are you looking for Grade A+++ result? Then go to Singapore. Prepare at least RM100k. Look for Dr Winston Tan.

Are you looking for Grade A (sometimes may vary) result? Gov Hospital around klang Valley has a few. These surgeons are trained in both orthodontics and oral surgery. Double specialty. Prepare around RM30. I forgot their names.

he said my upper teeth hav moderate crowding, won extract, lower one is severe so extract 1. so im confused tat how could u straigjten without removing any existing teeth. but he said still nid to check xray to hav a definite answer for my teeth.

If just extract one teeth, you will probably not achieve symmetry. But what to do, sometimes have to compromise to achieving acceptable results. Better than having no treatment.

Correcting your crowded upper arch without extraction would expand the arch. Because your face is concave, expanding the upper arch is ideal to correct the concavity.

He agreed to a price of rm7000. Rm2000 deposits, rm200 monthly commitment. Is that good deal you think? He had a phd student doing the check up on me last time, so I assume he had a lot of experience doing this.

7000 for traditional or self ligating?

It's expensive for traditional. It's cheap if it's self ligating.

Most importantly, is the result.

Bear in mind many ortho patients just accept their new look even the result are poor (from a professional point of view), because they would somehow still look better than their old self. And too lazy to continue with minute corrections which will take another year or so...

Hi Guy,
Would like to ask whether anyone here know the current pricing for Hawley and permanent retainer (for up and bottoms)?

And if I plan to do it at a new clinic, will the doctor charge additional fees for reviewing my case? If yes, what the charges might be for a rough estimation.

Not going back to the existing one, as their price is quite high (even though for their old customer).

Hope you guy can provide some info, thanks.

Hawleys I charge 400. No extra fee. I don't do lingual retainers due to hygiene reasons.
