How much is the charge?

I get quote from Q & M Dental for compromise package (ie without surgery)

Consultation RM100
X-ray OPG RM100
Lateral skull RM100
Study model RM100
Upper brace only (Damon) RM5,000 or traditional RM4,500
Quad helix Arch - RM800
Removal Upper Hawley RM450

Is this price reasonable given that the dentist say due to my condition, she will only do the upper bracer for me.

I have lower jaw slightly longer than upper. This cause my upper teeth not able to be in line with my lower teeth. It seems i need to expand my upper arch.

This is a compromise treatment as I cannot afford to do the first option which is bracer+ surgery.

Can anyone advise me? I still think the price is quite high for just upper brace.

Anyone have any bad experience to do braces in White Smile Orthodontic?
I'm currently having my braces at there since March, every month appointment also delay for more than 40min up to 1 hours, just to wait for the doctor.
I always make my appointment with Dr.Reuben, but then always it was another doctor help me to do. Most of the time, i feel bad for it. The reason i choosing to do the braces there is because i trust in Dr.Reuben, but then most of the time he also just verbally teaching other doctor to help me for my adjustment.

I have yet to do braces but I've been to the consultation.
I also went to White Smile, booked a session to see Dr.Reuben 5-6 weeks in advance, only to receive a Whatsapp msg 1 week before the appointment that Dr.Reuben couldn't make it. ranting.gif It was a bad experience, as there was no courtesy call and I had to resort to seeing other dentist.

Dr. Reuben is the only orthodontist there.
So why do I want to pay premium prices just to get my braces done by a dentist/trainee doc instead of a qualified orthodontist?

I feel like business is getting a lot better so Dr. Reuben couldn't be bothered anymore and always seems to be not around, especially on weekends.
This clinic is starting to feel a lot like the "famous" dental clinic in Bangsar.

Anyone could recommend another clinic in KL for braces would be great!

Yes.. I agree with it. Please look for another dentist clinic. I already start my braces there which it is difficult for me to transfer my case to another clinic. i already spent so much on here. mad.gif I seriously not happy that i did not get enough attention as I need. Sometimes i arrange an appointment with Dr.Reuben end up is another dentist/trainee who helps me to do it. And her skills are not professional enough, as most of the time that i have to go back again due to the wire she dint help me cut properly till it keeping poking on my gum.

Any recommendations for an online braces consultation (don't mind paying a small fee) that I can use by sending them pictures to get a second opinion? My nearby dentist recommended extraction for 2 of my upper jaw first bicuspids for an overbite. Just want to make sure if the recommendation is accurate.

Dont go to smilebay

1. Expensive RM6500++
2. Extract 4 tooths (it's done in other clinic and you have to pay for this- not inclusive)
3. Very long time (3 years duration) - Dr only want to see every 2 months
4. Too many people, appointment can only be made on thursday (working day)
5. By 3 years or the installment already finished, the Dr will quickly tell you that please come in another 6 months, but they never call you again and if you make appointment you have to pay even though the treatment not yet complete.

I wanna share my previous experience at the famous 'Bangsar' dental clinic
I signed up my damon braces at here about 6 or 7 years back, had my braces installed for 2 1/2 years.
During my treatment, they have changed their name 3 times, so called re-branding
The nurse quote me the price and asked me if I want the 'Dato' consultation, I gotta pay extra. At the end the price i agreed was 6,500 excluded polishing, extraction and x-ray.
However, the Dato only observed and give instruction to other dentist to carry out the work, it's ok I am fine with that, I like one of the indian lady doctor so I only special request for her treatment only. There's one appointment, the Dato was quite free so he did the adjustment on my braces himself, the nurse very rude and scold, who allowed the Dato to do adjustment for this ah moi.. WTF.. I PAID OK
On my de-brace day, as usual I request the indian doctor but end up they arranged me to a new guy, very young not handsome and lots of mustache. His skill was rough, then I see he input so many fees on the PC, I was like 'huh', why are you charging me on your own?
Then I argue and at the end I cried at the clinic, they charged me de-brace fee, polishing fee, x-ray fee, photograph fee, retainer and etc. It cost me for 1.5k
Gosh, I am just a student that time, then I argue with them
A Lady came in, I told her when I signed up ur fee is deemed to inclusive of these charges, she answered me: That's the reason I am here, to make the Fee clearer and to be charged correctly
WHAT?! you fucking kidding me? I disagreed still. at the end after a round of debate, agreed at 880 o0o
The GUY dentist helped me to debrace and polishing, ok nightmare begun
It's already 3 years, my teeth started does not looked satisfied and yet the residue of the cement braces still stick on my teeth and caused my teeth become yellowish.
I need to go another clinic and consider to re-do my braces.
this is my summary because if i tell full story 3D3N also cannot finish
kthxbye

Is the clinic with an incident recently?? If yes then the same thing happen to me too. Mine was few year back.

My case was, they keep assigning new doctor (might be intern/temporary) to do the braces for the past 3 years. All the new doctor will have their own way of fixing the braces which making the treatment like no end.

The charges will be fluctuate like world currency based on which doctor attending the treatment. Never ever ask for a lady (Datin) doctor, she will charge the patient with hefty fees.

Lucky for me, the outcome still within my satisfaction.

Whitesmile Orthodontic Dental Braces Clinic still provides the best choice. I left Kuala Lumpur to do my medical housemanship in Sabah / Sarawak. 1 year later I came back for treatment and the clinic still honour the price plan and all the treatment plan as agreed. They are not money minded. From my knowledge, Dr Reuben used to work there but now he is passing the clinic to more junior doctors. The other doctors are very ethical and my friends also do their braces there. In fact, i heard that many dentists send themselves or family members there for their own treatment (don't know this is true but this is what another dentist told me). I am happy with my (slow) treatment but of course I can't wait to get my braces off!!!!

The clinic I'm mentioning is different with the one you highlighting above. The one I've mentioned is a clinic with an incident which involve some big shot individual.

Dr Reuben is only one of the doctors there... they have others to choose from. My experience so far was good. Hard for me to keep appointments because I am a long distance patient, and they don't overcharge. IMHO, so many horror stories from other clinics I would STILL travel from the end of the earth to do my treatment at Whitesmile Orthodontic...... haha

So far I must say Whitesmile Orthodontic Dental Braces Specialist clinic is still the most reasonable price clinic in KL. Front desk is a little unhelpful but very happy with my result so far. Other clinics cost RM 2 - 3k more for this good quality treatment. The clinic didnt charge me for my 3d x ray which cost RM 350 outside. Not money minded doctors = Very satisfied.

So I guess that I've got to prepare at least RM5K to get it done... Anyone know any private dentist or orthodontist that allow payment through installments? tongue.gif

I've had braces on for 2 years + now. It took longer for me because I postponed by teeth extractions by a year because I wanted to see how my teeth would look without extractions. But evidently, after that 1 year, it was clear I had to go for extractions. One problem I was very, veryyyy afraid of is getting a sunken face.

But I still went ahead anyway, cuz like, literally my protrusion problem still there without extractions. Its been about 10 months since my extractions and I'm pretty happy so far with the changes. I did film my braces journey and I am doing a series of braces video as a journal for myself to look back on in the future and also to help out people who are on their braces journey.

I just share my links to the videos here for general info. You can watch if you want lah hah.

Braces: Will extractions cause a sunken face?

Braces 101: My braces journey so far | Pain, Cost, Extractions etc.

Btw, I did my braces at Dr Lee Orthodontist at Uptown in case any of you are wondering smile.gif

I went for consultation at White Smile too recently and I can feel you. It was so hard to get an appointment there, once cancelled have to wait for another one month for new appointment. But the main issue was Dr Reuben was not there during the consultation I met 3 junior doctors on duty that day. All graduated in 2013/2014. Asked the nurse and confirmed that Dr Reuben is the only orthodontist there, he only do treatment plan but leave the other jobs to the other (junior) general dentists. But White Smile is supposed to be a specialist orthodontist clinic and the fees they asked for is specialist price, what would the patients feel if they have to pay specialist fees but handled by some young GP instead? Normal dentists charged half or less for braces ok. I investigated further and found out Dr Reuben only works in the clinic 5-6 days in January and he works in another clinic in Singapore called Smile Focus too. No wonder always not around. Sounds a lot like the other 'famous' orthodontist clinic in Bangsar right?

What really puzzled me is their business looks good with a lot of patients. So many patients can actually accept this situation in Malaysia? I did observe quite many patients are foreigners (non Malaysian) may be due to easily accessible via public transport. The first question the dr asked me during consultation was where are you from(?). I don't know when did all this started but Dr Reuben used to station at WhiteSmile last time judging from previous patients comments and experience on this forum. I know it's a business model and there's no right or wrong actually, it's up to individual preference, comfort level and confidence in the doctors/clinic.

For me, I consulted another orthodontist on the MOA list right away. Lol. This other orthodontist knows Dr Reuben personally too and he said he has other patients that came to him from WhiteSmile and felt the same as I did. Then he mentioned that Dr Reuben is actually quite okay and he would make sure things are ok. So judge for yourselves guys and girls. Choose (your orthodontist) wisely. We only have a set of teeth.

Update: I decided not to do my braces at White Smile already since my confidence and comfort level is not high for the way they handle the patients. Coz I prefer an orthodontist to handle my case personally from start to finish. So I have chosen another orthodontist that I feel comfortable with talking about my expectations and willing to listen to me patiently. Choosing a suitable doctor that you like and comfortable with is really the utmost important thing in this braces journey coz have to see him/her regularly for 2-3 years. All the best in your journey everyone!
