Actually AmEx has been offering cash back for quite a while. Before the launching of the dual card, they have done the RM1.5M cash back a few years back. Amex is my everyday card as long as merchants accepts it. Plus aside from the cash back, you get 5x treats points as well.

Most of my big purchases are done via Amex, and the points can be converted into vouchers.

It's in the mindset, most of the businessman here are just in for the money, majority of them anyways. They don't care too much about customer service and after sales service.

Was actually looking for the Philips Hue set, but I guess now that we know about Machines, will head to their competitor instead like EpiCentre since they can redeem points as well.

True enough, it's a tactic that's mainly use here in the local scene. But again, not a lot of us like to stand up and walk away because quite a number don't mind bundling up with the accessories. Just like the surcharge on credit cards, sellers will just blame it on the bank that they have to charge you the service fee because the bank charges them. Of course the fact that the seller would want to earn more rather than giving it to the bank. They could have easily build the cost into the item, like that the buyer get to use the credit card plus the seller gets the sale.

If it's her friend, and need to claim warranty, should be alright for her to call up Apple right?

Hmm...not sure about the transfer of warranty. Call up Apple hotline to check first and provide the serial no and do it from there. From what I read at Apple forums.
