I can't program to save my life, but I am used to using apps to access most contents on my phone, as opposed to opening up a web browser.

Some problems that I see as of now:

1. Currently if I need to check my inbox and replies for my business I need to open Chrome -> Bookmark -> Subforums and navigate the threads.
2. Another issue is with the fast-reply box, where the Chrome zooms in too much by default and the screen right-and-left frame cuts off the fast-reply box, as I type, I can't see what I am typing without first zooming out.
3. The ads are usually oversized to be displayed on the phone. Soetimes I need to scroll left-right even while using LYN Forum (Mobile mode)

It would increase the usability for mobile users if we could use an app by having these features:

1. New inbox and subscribed topics alert functions
2. Seamless integration of the forum features like the fast-reply box and perhaps more that I cant think of.

Benefit to LYN forum as a whole:

1. You can control the ads that appear on the app. Currently I am sure many users are using adblock on their desktop browsers, but with an app, you could increase your ad revenue by increasing visibility.
2. Users like myself would be so thankful to you guys as a whole

The app can be developed and maintained using the add money. Just like the apps that are created by Reddit users.

Thank you.

One forumer already developed an Android app for reading LYF posts, but can't include reply features and other perks due to access restriction to the API. Forum 'bosses' need to endorse the said app in order to make it more useful... Your suggestion is good, though... oh well, let's hope they are interested enough to 'invest' into that app... laugh.gif

My other favorite website, Reddit does not endorse developers of 3rd partay apps too, but they seem to be able to make apps that are even more user-friendly than the Reddit website itself laugh.gif laugh.gif

Anyway, instead of endorsing these aps, I do suggest that the forum bosses raise some capital, pay professional developers to do it, and maintain the development through ads. As one of the bigger (if not biggest???) forum in Malaysia, I'm sure there is something that can be done about it.

Who would fork out this kind of money in the first place? For your info, if desktop version have adblock, the same goes for app which users can install adaway.
These kind of development usually cost easily US$12K for either android or ios and US$24k for both platforms.

I am a mobile app developer myself and coverting browser features into native features of another platform is never easy and the most important part being synchronization and alerts notification between browser and app like how Facebook function. What's more, the app needs to talk between android and ios on PM functions.

If the owner of this forum is interested to develop an official app, me and my team can develop it for approx US$19K (but let's finalise the requirements).

Pls let us know.

I'm not a coder/programmer/developer by any standards; I never said it was going to be easy and it will definitely comes with a cost, but this idea is worth pitching in.

I don't have the numbers, but would you say that the portion of mobile users that use adaway to be similar to the portion of PC users using adblock? I imagine that there are less in the former and less in the latter.

An open tender for this project would be great too. We can clearly see the portfolio of the developers and the costs that they are going in with.

I can do it as well but my price will be a lot cheaper than US$19K. I hope the LY.net will invite me to bid if there's a requirement for mobile app too smile.gif

Yes, yes! I wish this idea could start rolling and LYN could one day have its own Android/iOS aps.

With LYN network already in place, I am sure the ad-revenue could cover the initial development costs, and the maintenance of the ap down the road.

At the moment we're not looking to pursue any mobile apps until we replace the forum software with a newer one.

Noted. This is the first Ive heard that the forum software was going to be replaced. Is there anything lacking with the software? It has been with us since inception correct?
