The Proton 2020 City Car Design Competition has ended and the winner have been announced.

Here comes the 1st prize winner (rm3k cash + macbook air)

Although the contest listed that innovation and originality are being prioritized, but how realistic these entries looked? Is it even possible for our cars to look like that in 2020?

I am a car enthusiast and loved designing bodykits/ sketching cars when I am free, I entered the contest too with my following entries but I don't even get any consolation prize. Is it being realistic and getting the correct proportion wrong? I don't understand how the people at proton think, how is our car industry going to improve when you like childish drawing than a realistic sketch?

Because first thought of your design is - suprima.

Why should they chose your design if they already produced it?

Shitz design only Proton will give any award...that first prize really facepalm...the runner ups and consolation actually much better.

No wonder Proton always comes up with design like Preve and Suprima. No taste in cars.

There's 2 groups. the Eluma won the university group, those that I posted are from the secondary school group which I am eligible to enter smile.gif

the Eluma was a really impressive entry by the way, that's how a futuristic concept car should look like.

Mine might not be the most different one but hey.

Lets a take a look at Audi/ BMW/ Mercedes. Each of their models look identical with small similar elements, that's what makes people recognize your brand through the whole lineups.

I admit that mine looks a little similar to the Suprima, but I wanted it to be the bigger brother of Suprima or even the next generation Suprima, why not?

Side by side comparison, you can obviously see the unique bits from my design compared to Suprima.

You can go and take a look at various competitions organized by other car manufacturers, they don't take crazy drawings as winner as they are looking for production ready design or realistic ones which can really be considered to sell to the public.

can you point out which part of the car is ripoff?

Mind you, I took a Mazda 3 as the base proportion, no way that thing would be similar to a Suprima.

The design should be relevant in 2020 not 2015.

They maybe considering other element such as design element competition not the the beauty drawing competition.

TS, you should focus on improving your talents, and not crying over spilt milk. If anything, this thread has showcased your bitterness more than your penchant for designing cars.

Move on, and keep coming up with good stuff. I wish you the best of luck.

it's ok, thanks for the advice.

I know I can't do anything else to change the result or whatsoever but I wanted to show people how naive our carmaker is even after taking people's money as investment for so many years.

They win because it suites their design & culture. What the fuss?

Or maybe the competition theme is called "give us a car that should not be made".

TS about design. Good design for today, but not for 2020. The theme is Proton city car of the year 2020.

The body itself has the lines of a Scirocco.

Rear lights just look like Cerato.

Rear bumper from Inspira.

Need more creativity.

Btw, the E-Luma if really can make in future should go to Lotus. Give Proton will be such a waste.

I saw the contest entry must have proposed powertrain. I wonder somebody dare to propose a Rotary-Hybrid with a 2 speeder gearbox

Fixed RPM Wankel engine as a electric generator powering 2 rear electric motors, battery weight spread 70% rear 30% front. Can achieve 50/50 weight distribution.

Just a dream though.

More like Suprima with Honta Insight grille. If design like that also can win 1st prize, then I came up with my original design sure win already. These participants either don't know much about cars or just poor sketchers who took design from existing car and came up with their rubbish drawing.

I did some long description when submitting to proton but it's few months ago already.

Basically is that I wanted it to have a 1.6 Turbo engine + a small power electric motor, kinda the hybrid way. I didn't go full EV or even hydrogen energy because let's be a little more realistic, can Proton really produce such high tech products? people started producing turbo engines few decades ago and our dear Proton just started making the CFE Campro that's still very lacking compared to korean/ japanese, let's not say Mercedes/ BMW/ VW. And the car should be a C segment hatchback that competes with Golf/ Fiesta those kind of cars.

again refer to my upper reply.

emm though some of the scratching is not well proportioned, some strong and unique concept are found among the winners.
the idea of concept car is more toward "how" and "why" on the concept, and it may not be realistic.

TS's scratch is nice indeed, but it is only part of the judging criteria.

Bro, if one company does not recognize your work doesn't mean there is something wrong with the company or you.

Personally I think you have the talent and I encourage you to explore it further. But you have to keep your sense of self entitlement in check, because this is not the last time your work will be rejected, regardless of you think the rejection is justified or not.

airing your grievances in public just makes you look like a sore loser. Let it go and move on.
