I bought a unit of SR5008 to test my speaker. It sounds acceptable. However, when pair it with a poweramp it is a completely different story.

I compare with my Emotiva UMC-1 with the same power amp, I personally reckon the later has wider soundstage and clearer when compared to my SR5008.

However, technically Marantz has more functionalities to play with.

If you are using the built in DAC, let it burn in for a week, then it will soften with smoother sound.

While for normal use, I found it take 30 to 40 minutes warm up time before it can shine. It also need certain volume to shine... While PM8005 lower volumn also chun.

It is why now I am thinking if I should place my PM6005 inside the cabinet to fasten the warm up time.

hmm, still figuring how to uitilize the Marantz PM6005 DAC via USB, it seems there is no way except an external sound card

I am using external DAC for USB purposes...

This is the only disappointment from PM6005 -> lack of USB

It is about pairing. The sabre is rather transparent and you need to part it with right gears to get its best. If you felt fatigue after long listening, the culprit is  probably your speaker.

BTW, the differences in DACs is not significant from 1 to another. They are audible only if you do side-side comparison.

I just tried the headphone port on avr. Not good unless change to direct /pure direct listening mode.
the other 2 choices are stereo, virtual.

hiss noise start to appear at -16db onwards.
