Any experience with optical cables? I’m using those plastic type RM20+ for 1.5m bought in Aeon. A few articles online say cheap plastic or expensive glass cable no difference, but I’m not sure.

Not quite sure but isn't that optical fiber cable carries digital signal in the form of 1 0 ?
If use cheap cable what would happen? Can't be the music supposed to be 10 10 10 then cheap optical cable altered it become 10 11 10 right? Unless it's bend damaged cable I doubt it will causes such transmit error...

ok thanks guys. i read some of other people's experience with both glass and plastic and the difference seems too small, or not even there. glad i didn't spend more on this.

Optical cables are like HDMI cables, they don't make your sound any better or worse. Just use the cheapest or reasonably priced better looking cables based on your taste. I've seen some crazily priced thick optical cables which look very impressive but these are snake oil at its best. Inside is still the thin optical cable that transmits light. HDMI cables are also the same, only difference is the bandwidth and Ethernet capability, no difference to video & audio quality.

the key is distance. short one usually fine with any cable.
long distance would not be the same.

ess dac sound thin = normal. not sure if yours can change filter to short, slow, sharp like pioneer avr

What audible difference can you hear?

How about optical out from bd player to external dac? Sampling become 44k or still 48k? Do you know?
*
All the same negative results because the clock already screw up within the player for down sampling.

IMO, there is only one solution if want to listen to Music CD content, the player must have 44.1khz clock, no matter we are using the built in DAC or external DAC.

This is a global standard issue. It seems a mistake to come up 48khz version when there was already 44.1khz version.

Some time I felt the ESS are 'over' realistic if you know what I meant.. And if paired with bright system, long hours listen is kind of suffering due to too much ajinomoto.

Dear Marantz users , I found these 2 units lying around when doing spring cleaning in my house.

1) Marantz Amp PM7001 with remote
2) Marantz CD Player CD6002 no remote
3)Plus their power cable with the word SUPRA

Any idea on the market price for these 2 used units. Try powering them on and put a cd in and it runs, but no idea of the sound because i dont have any speakers to test.

How much do you guys think i can sell these 2 units. Thanks in advance.

sound like a marantz, react well to power cord & fuse changes.
i even use the preout rca to connect subwoofer during the days without avr.
resell him for modern device come with network wifi & bluetooth.

Lol what's the Marantz sound signature? Always heard this term, was it warmth like tube amp?

have own a few entry level marantz avr, int amp & mini cd streamer.
all of them sound alike in direct mode.
even the name say so, i guess it is factory intended tone, not really direct bypass every single thing.
another highlight is the volume. got slightly match human sensitivity to compensate eq at low or high loudness.

easy listening, close to realistic. not flat neutral, not warm.
balance focus between live instruments & vocals.
but multiple voices separation unable differentiate that well (just ok)

probably my speakers have influence too.
i'd say they are very similar to car audio from benz kind.
