Hi guys, I'm new to MKB. I'm wondering is there mkb that don't have backlighting? I'm looking for one which have blue switch since I'll using it more on typing than gaming, something that is not too flashy lol. Of course it need to be affordable too since it will be my first mkb. Any recommendations?

For something without backlighting, its either ducky zero at 269(tkl) , 299(full size), or the better quality filco tkl which is 100 bucks more , 369 and 399.

thanks, I'll take a good look at those.
btw found this shop that selling MKB. Might be dropping by when I'm free.

Pity. I'm actually looking for full size ones. Oh, does anybody have experience with both bown and blue switch? I knew blue switch are louder than brown but to what extent?

Shortlisted either ducky dk2108 or cm storm quickfire xt. Which one is actually better?

Different layout, you should compare dk2108 to cm storm qfr / qfr-i
One with numpad (cm storm qf xt) and one without numpad. I would prefer tkl as it save spaces! And I also don't like rubberized surface of cm storm...

I would choose ducky in this case. One thing bad about this keyboard is that it doesn't has detachable cable. Not a problem if you are not planning to carry around...
*
I chose either those 2 because of the lack of backlighting. Important to explain to the wife that I bought normal cheap keyboard instead of expensive one lol. The cm qfr xt that I refer to is the one with numpad. Important for me since I'm using it regularly.

If you use it regularly for numpad, Ducky Zero do offer full layout as well.
CM XT and Ducky Zero have standard layout, both are ok.  nod.gif

I've decided to get ducky zero 2108. CM XT while it is a good kb its frame is said to be rubber coated in which I'm not fond of. Definitely going to buy it before this April.

Now to decide whether blue or brown switch hmmm.

I wonder which kb switch is suitable for people who always bottom out during typing?

Then where to get those o rings locally? Lets say if I bought blue switch kb and found out its too loud, I may want to try to put o rings to reduce the noise.

You can't really select a switch based on that. Sometimes bottoming out is a good thing because you get a totally different feel from the keys.

As for o-rings, you can ask around and nobody will tell you it feels nice. To reduce noise, use a different kind of switch instead, or use a Korean backplate on an Alu block case.
*
I see. I guess I need to try all the switches. I tried a blue switch kb (armageddon mka7) before at viewnet and that got me into mkb.

But, please do not buy Armaggeddon MKBs. This brand is really not as good as you think.
*
I'm not going to buy any armageddon mkbs. It just happen that it has display unit thus I'm able to try it out and discover what is it about mkb.

QUOTE(dadudeneverabides @ Mar 11 2015, 07:51 PM)
IIRC, Armageddon uses clone switches. Not too shabby, but they try to sell at Cherry prices, which kinda defeats the purpose. I'd still recommend the Ducky Zero series unless you need backlight for entry models.
*
Well, I am going to get myself a ducky zero but still undecided on what switch should I choose.

Linear is Red
Clicky is Blue
Many more choices
For you to choose

Well iirc the ducky zero is only available in blue, brown and red. I'm currently partial towards brown since many said it feels between blue and red.

QUOTE(justnits @ Mar 12 2015, 10:42 AM)
oyaji-san, while many reviews do mention that brown is in between blue and red, it is quite true in some sense seeing that the choice of popular and common switch available in the market are just blue, brown, red and black. after testing them, it can be a bit misleading for ppl who have not tried it before.
assuming mx blue is 100% tactile and mx red is 0% tactile, i would rate mx brown as 30% tactile and original unlubed mx clear 110%.

again, this is according to my taste and preference and feel which is a very subjective matter as everyone has different opinion about it.
best way to know what you would like is really, to test it out with your own fingers.
*
Yup, I'm definitely going to test them myself then see which one I ended up with lol.

icon_idea.gif +1, just try it out yourself somewhere like LOWYAT or HEAVYARM, your fingers feeling is everything > online surveying brows.gif

I have to pay a visit to heavyarm to see and test those keyboards. In the meantime I just visit lowyat to keep testing whatever mechanical keyboard on display.

Btw, are those rosewill rk9k still available? I heard they are made by the same company that makes filco. How does it compare to ducky zero?

Tried out some mkb at sricomp & viewnet.
steelseries mkb, black switch-quite ok but after awhile start to get tired especially at the small pinky finger.
razer mkb blue switch-felt ok, clicky.
logitech g710 brown switch- I like it. Surely fits its description as something between red and blue and I like the slight tactile feeling of it.
asus strix mkb possible red switch since it felt linear-felt ok but somehow might be too light.

one thing for sure. Due to my typing style of always bottoming out, all mkb turns out to be just as noisy. Thus mkb with brown switch will be on top of my list because red are too light, black a bit too heavy and blue are too noisy, might not suitable for typing at the middle of midnight.

icon_idea.gif  icon_idea.gif i get scolded everyday due to that reason, used to be i meant.. doh.gif

so your final choice would be g710 brown switches?
*
Actually I went to sricomp just to test which switch fits me the best so I tried whatever display mkb available. As for that logitech g710 no I wont be buying that because it look too flashy to me. I'm going to buy a ducky zero instead. I'm surprised that all mkb that I tried becomes noisy when bottom out lol so I decided to get the one brown over blue because will be more noisier when I'm typing with blue than brown and the brown still have that tactile feel.

QUOTE(DarkSilver @ Mar 15 2015, 12:41 AM)
Brown Switch + O-Ring Sound Dampers(makes you won't hit bottom)...
Combination of these = very silent.  brows.gif
But, the O-Ring Sound Dampers will somehow affect the typing feel slightly due to it doesn't allow you to bottom-out each press.
*
I would try those o rings but only when the wife starts complaining lol
