So, if you guys remember my post about modding my BWU original, there will be a change in plan. After discussing with my sister, she said it's better to just change the spring(the weird feeling of the keys might be something to do with the springs), change out all the LEDs, add o-rings, lube it and perhaps add sticker to the switch because she is not some hardcore typist.

She said it will be better for me to save the money and buy a Korean custom kb in future. Is it ok?

you might as well save money aand us is as it is than get a new keyboard sooner.
changing spring you need to desolder to open the and open the switches
you need to spend at least rm100 from spring(10USD) ,led(rm30),o-ring(rm20),service solder and desolder will cost you alot so you might as well just used till keybaord broken than change

This thread really poison sia...
I got my own soldering iron and my soldering skills is not that bad IMO. lol
Throwing off that BWU is like wasting though, and I don't have enough cash in hand to straight go buy a custom Korean kb..hehe
Plus my sister just agreed she'll fund this "repair".. biggrin.gif

Just buy switches at taobao and replace it with the key you feel weird, no need for spring change. rolleyes.gif

Don't lube and add o-ring on tactile switches, it is digusting. rolleyes.gif

Ya, since the project is to restore a good keyboard for your sister...
Your sister is right, you should save money and buy a Korean custom kb for your sister in the future.
It's cost effective too.

kthxbye.

Only thing i notice there is the awkward positioning of the keyboard without any sort of wrist rest area.

New stuff by cherry is actually cherry own board cherry mx 6.0. Nothing too fancy there to hype about. Thought they will actually come out with new switch type or v2 of cherry mx switches but noope.

Cherry Brand Keyboard? Anyone is using it?

is not that your soldering skill bad you need a proper solder station which also going to cost you a good sum of your money (without temperature control you might burn the pcb)
just used the keyboard until end of its lifespan than move on with a new keyboard best not to do anything to it that's the best option.unless you sell for a lose and get a new keyboard and dont go custom so fast go try other than razer before going custom. Razer is not a really good quality keyboard so you might want to try other brand like Filco, Ducky and ETC.

I actually work on making custom cables for my IEMs, and I do aware that those cheap soldering iron and burn the PCB or even burn the component, eyed on soldering station for quite awhile but idk which specific shop to get the model I want.

That time when I bought that Razer, is more of the hype than my knowledge about advantage of mech kb. That time also Filco is in the price range, but I was attracted by the bling2 and the brand. Naive I was.. No more lezer kb, IMO their new switch felt like crap.. doh.gif

In future wanna try Topre.

MSI GT80 Titan mechanical keyboard laptop
http://blog.laptopmag.com/msi-gt80-titan-sli-specs
http://www.lowyat.net/2015/01/new-lenovo-y...e-i7-processor/

normally laptops are notorious for not being able to upgrade the main components which most users would do after 5 years or more.

however looking at the youtube demonstration, they show that this laptop was designed to be upgradable. hopefully that means the motherboard and cpu too hmm.gif

but the catch is, they only promise upgrades for 2 generations. so beyond that you will need to get a new laptop.

the intel strategy is a tick tock.... so assuming these 2 generations are tocks only, then maybe it would last long enough to be an okay investment hmm.gif

having said that, for bang for bucks, i've never had quite an issue with laptop chiclet keys and cheaper too. but then again i don't use laptops for competitive gaming so lelz sweat.gif

Type fast, then passed tactile actuation or bump.
Type slow or lazy type, press till bottomed out.
