Hi guys, am wondering... are there any MKB with low profile keys/ shorter key travel?
*
Low profile keys will be DSA, and to lower key travel you'd need to put o-rings in the keycaps.

O-rings don't affect travel.

*
These products claim to reduce distance travel though..
http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/index.php/pro...ers-125pcs.html

Is it depends on the type of o-ring?

QUOTE(dadudeneverabides @ Mar 11 2015, 12:05 PM)
For tactile switches, let's just talk about MX series only. Topre surely out of your range and Matias doesn't have that many keycaps available.

MX Browns are considered scratchy MX Reds. After using them for a long time, I have to say that although this assessment is correct, but I would call it unfair because I actually enjoyed using these scratchy reds as they give me a little feedback on actuation of switches.

Next would be the hallowed MX Clears. Clears have a more significant bump, which also translated to a more pronounced tactile experience. HOWEVER, it's actuation force is actually quite high, and most users who jumped from Browns to Clears suffer from significant fatigue.

Personally, I felt a lot fatigue even moving 5g upwards due to my typing habits (just floating above the keys, and trying my very best not to bottom out).

Having said all that, I now introduce to you the REAL poison of the MKB world: custom switches.

Easiest to be done are the MX Ergo Clears (shortened to eClears from now on). eClears have the advantage of accepting any actuation force from 50g to 62g. Anything lower won't bounce back up, while anything tougher makes no sense as you can just use stock clears. Chief among the so-called poison is the need to lube the switches, as well as almost insane amount of consistency tuning needed to make the switches feel and react the same way. A well tuned eClear is the closest feel I get to Topre.

One of my favourites, and also the biggest time-sink and expertise required will be Jailhouse Blues (JHB). JHB involves locking up the slider on MX Blues with either copper/steel wire or thin o-rings (also known as the insanitarium). This in effect shortens the travel time, reduces the loudness (esp for the insanitarium build) and turns the Blues from clicky to tactile. The closest feel I can describe it with is something akin to MX Clears.

So, in the end, what switches you end up with is up to you, but I suggest that you do a LOT more homework on the world of tactile MX switches (sans exotic types) before committing to one.

Thanks for the explanation. I don't know how much the weight gonna affect me because i always bottom out when typing.
Its just that I read so many recommend clears for better tactility makes me want to try it.

Question about linear switches.
If you put black switch's spring into red switch, will it become black switch?
So the difference between linear switches are the spring while for tactile switches are the spring and stem? hmm.gif
