Hi all,

New to this thread. I am thinking of making the switch over to Mech keyboards. Any recommendation as to the best value for money? My current keyboard is logitech G110.

Thanks!
*
Can you let us know:
1. budget
2. Prefer LED or not
3. Layout of preference (60%, TKL or Full layout)

I prefer full layout, LED is not a priority and budget is quite flexible as long as it is worth the money. But not too expensive though =P
*
Then go for Filco Majestouch 2 full layout.
Less than 400ringgit and it's non-led.
Recommended due to high quality and solid typing experience.

Thanks for the recommendation but since you mention "solid typing experience", does this in any way impact on how the keyboard performs for gaming?
*
Ya, sure it will impact for gaming as well in a good way.
But if you mention about gaming, I do recommend MX Red for FPS because can easily multi tap the keystroke, MX Brown or Blue for general like dotA2.

Why are gateron switches getting praises compared to other clone switches?

Are they really good?
*
Their linear switches are very very good, and it's affordable.
Even praised by mkb big god. drool.gif

The media key function looks good LOL
*
Ya, Rosewill do have nice media keys functions.
Most of the recent keyboards had their media keys hard-programmed to the board.
Only those like Filco Majestouch or other keyboard do not have media keys.
However, we still can soft-program it via keyremap software i.e. AutoHotkey (windows) or Karabiner (OSX).
Anyway, Happy CNY. rclxms.gif

Hehe..I am in dire need of macros but even more the media controls esp the volume rocker. Can't live without them.

I already took a look at the other mech kbs and decided that I can't live without those 'gaming' features. So poison resistance up!

Maybe in the future I will change my mind. But who knows tongue.gif
*
So sad hearing from you getting a G710+. sad.gif
My last recommendation for Filco, do have 1 series has media controls.
Btw, you are not the first person who not take our recommendation seriously. icon_idea.gif

Haha I admit that Filco quality is top notch. I even fiddled with it at the shop.

But coming from Logitech G110, it makes sense for me to go for something I am familiar with.

I do take your recommendation seriously. It gave me ideas on what to look for in a Mech KB. But I do have other features I can't live by and for me its worth the sacrifice.

Btw, nice color scheme!
*
Like what features? laugh.gif
Hopefully not primitive features...

People tends to forget those features they want from "Gaming MKB" can be achieved easily with a software.  smile.gif  tongue.gif

For me, I don't care for those features, a plain standard layout is always best for me.  thumbup.gif

Dear Sifus, is it possible to change the Costar Stabilizer from the Filco Majestouch 2 TKL to Cherry Stabilizer.

What stuffs I need? Do I need to change the Controller Chip too if I want to change the stabilizer?

Thanks!
*
First question, all the veterans will curious about..
Why you want to change it? sweat.gif

1st, I like that feel of Cherry Stabilizer.
2nd, I don't know why the Shift buttons easily get pushed down to either sides if being pressed hard at the sides. It's perfectly OK and problemless if not pressed with super strong force at left or right side of the key.
See SPOILER IMAGE below...

Is it generally like that? Or is my unit spoiled? If so, I gonna RMA it?
*
Can you pull the keycap out and show us the picture of the "inserts" to the wire costar stabilisers?
It looks like the Right Shift do not mount the inserts to the costar stab.
You are the first like genuine Cherry stab I see in here. Most like costar or clipped-cherry.

Edit: Probably the inserts not hook to the wire of costar stab. No need RMA ya sweat.gif

The rest of the stuffs are fine, except the shift button here.
I repeat the same install procedure for every other keys a few times to confirm.
I don't know where or what went wrong...  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif

Actually I'm looking for image like this.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

If the white color inserts hook properly to the wire like shown in the picture, your Right Shift key will be stabilized.
If not stabilized, mean not hook properly. hmm.gif

darksilver, the wire is perfectly fine in your picture.
The procedure are
1. mount the inserts to the keycap
2. hook the inserts to wire.

Image of inserts to keycap and hooked to wire is below for reference purpose (costar stabilisers, in alps keyboard).

Ain't really working. I think it might be due to lack of grease? That's why the key got stuck when pressed heavy from the sides(one at a time).
I tried not to use the Stabilizer Wire, and the problem solved.  tongue.gif
But, that'll mean not stable too...  doh.gif

Anyway, is Vortex MKB good?
*
I'm sure you talking about Vortex Poker 2.
Ya, it's a good 60% with lots of modding options.

Not really, I was talking about the TKL ONI thingy. Not sure if it's EOL already...
I think my Shift Key stuck is due to lack of grease.
What grease paste should I put in? And where can I get it?
Thanks.
*
Actually, costar won't stuck, because it stabilised by the stabiliser with the 2 inserts. sad.gif

You can get synthetic grease like SuperLube if you want.
Lube it, so you can reduce the rattling sound.

Your case, because u installed the shift key wrongly on the stab.
Check your white inserts, because if you installed white insert reversely, your key will be stuck.
Not bullshit, I have experience in this and even others tried that before.

Just wondering how the switch feel compared to conventional mechanical switches. nod.gif
