Ijan, is your EMU card capable to drive the K701 w/o any external amp?

so ijan, how was the K701 compared with RS-1? Will the AKG sounds "dead, sterile, and lifeless" claimed by some headfiers?

when i just got my 0404 card and compare it with my onboard AC'97, yes the EMU does sound cold. But after doing some research i found out that the 0404 is bright, and it reveals lots of details. After that i kindda got used to it already. So i guess i'll take the same route for the 701. Buy it, get use to it. These few days i'd been digging up old threads bout K701 on Headfi, seems like most of them *do* have high praise on K701 + valve headamps. Maybe it will work on my LD2+ also

don't think i'm going to sell the SR80 off. I'm very sure i'll be missing Grado sound signature once in a while

the one in my siggie only lo. I use to have an altec lansing headphone too, but that poor fella went swimming during flood and it drowned Gonna bank in by tonight i guess, but only can get it next week.

may i just say i'm not loaded to get more than 1 pair of cans? frankly, i'm crazy with Grado's sound signature, but this time my acquirement of K701 is merely "experimental". Other than tonnes of online review, i never auditioned the K701 before; but i have a brief experience on the K501 (in my faint memories...). Perhaps one day if i decided to get rid of the K701, most probably i'll be selling off the SR80 as well to fund for a RS-1 or GS-1K. At the meantime, just pray my upcoming AKG will satisfy me.

see, this is the reason why i'm keeping my Grado with me. But regardless of how i like Grado's sound signature, i find it "tiring" to listen to them for a long period of time. I'm an IT undergrad and most of the time i'll be in front of my monitor doing codings with my cans on my head, and i'll feel blood pressure rising, heartbeat increase (a bit exaggerated here ). No denial the Grado is fun, but not for extended usage

Hopefully the AKG will not exhibit this problem.

tell you what, if the K701 fails to satisfy me then no other phones will (except Grado reference series and statement series ), and that is where my upgraditis will end.

please don't say like this. Both of us tried Grado and HP1k before. yeah_guyz dislike Grado's sound signature, and i dislike how the Philips sounds. Both are just apples and orange man, no *direct* comparisons here. In fact its still 50/50 that i'll like AKG's sound signature

see first lo. To those who wish to listen to "new" AKGK701 especially those in Malacca, can we meet up? I'm thinking of having an audition with a small group of us (with your own source of course), given that the K701 is still "brand new". At least you'll know how it sounds before burn-in. Then after i hit the 1000 hour burn-in then we have another audition. Good idea?

My house ah... staying at my girlfriend's house currently. Not really convenient as her parents are home most of the time. Or dinodog your place convenient? If not then we meet somewhere outside lo, Starbucks or Coffee Bean will be good i guess, given that someone has to bring his amp and source out.

Btw walabies no need to be sad. This mini gathering is just to allow interested members to audition the K701 only. This month first audition on the "fresh out of the box" K701, then 1000 hours later will have another audition and we'll see what's the verdict. If it sounded so good, dinodog will place order for 10 sets of AKG

awww... you know you're pouring cold water on me don't you. Lolz, as long as it satisfy me then its enough lo. Moreover i guess everyone of us will have "wow-ed" when we first got our hands on a brand new pair of cans. Then will get used to the sound and the hype went off. Frankly, even if i get a GS1k also i'll be experiencing the same pattern.

... at least i still have my Grado with me... I just need another pair of different cans that won't make me feel tired after long period of usage; or a bedside setup.

if its only you alone then i guess my girlfriend won't mind if you come over. After all we'll be in my room most of the time (auditioning of course, what else can we do?). Are you free on weekdays?

K701 arriving next week lo. My gf is okay with me if its only one person coming to her house. You have to PM walabies to check the availability of the HD414 pads. Mine i ordered from Alamakor and till now still no news on that . If walabies got stock then sure, its ok for me.
