Yeah, bass is there. But a little shy, doesn't make enough impact as of yet. I'm not too much of a basshead myself. =P

QUOTE(yrh0413 @ Nov 19 2007, 06:18 PM) Until now, I still feel that the K701's bass will never be as strong as the Beyers or Grados; but you know it is there. Finding a good headamp is critical too, and I personally find the K701 + LD2+ has virtually zero bass. Ah well, you'll find yourself picking up all those minor minor details soon p.s. Do I sound like a K701 salesperson? The K701 sounds quite alike to my AD900 though, first impressions la. Hehe, cannot la your sales pitch, putting down the product only.. |

QUOTE(yeahs4.1 @ Nov 19 2007, 10:53 PM) SR80 indeed has lotta bass in term of quantity. That's right, I was using my sister's SR80 for a while when my SR60 was sent for repair. I think the bass the less than my MS2i though, don't really remember.lao, you also got a darkvoice to feed 701? recently heard a few people buying darkvoice, mikelanding is another 1 using darkvoice with 650. you can direct plug 701 into darkvoice while waiting for burn in, why wait? lol btw, you're in malaysia or aus? how much is the 701 you got? My darkvoice was meant to feed my MS2i, actually. Darkvoice with 650 is good, but I didn't like the signature of the 650 =P Tried it at a recent headfi meet. Heehehe I know, but wasting my tubes if i plug it into darkvoice for burn-in! Still in Australia, but returning for holidays this weekend. The 701 I bought second-hand from US. Total cost about 300AUD la. RRP here is 699AUD |

QUOTE(yeahs4.1 @ Nov 20 2007, 09:13 AM) woot, headphile family~ Yeah, cheapest local seller here also cost about 370AUD on ebay.com.au nice price you got there, i gotta agree with you, 701 at Aus is overpriced. wasting tubes? c'mon, the average lifespend of a tube is about 2000 to 5000 hours IINM NOS tubes very troublesome to source la, have to import from US and all, and expensive too. That's why slowly use la. Any suggestions where to buy tubes in Malaysia? For darkvoice 336i la. QUOTE and guys, no bass seens to be normal, it shall called more neutral ya? as most of the headphone EQ alot of bass..make us so used to bass doh.gif Hehe, I think my problem is the bass as tight as i like it to be la. Hopefully improve more over burn-in la. Otherwise overall very good. Oh ya... One more thing, I don't get why people rave so much about the soundstage... I think it's on par with the AD900 only... hmmmm someone with golden ears should come help me do an A-B comparison when I get back... |

Yeah, That's what I'm doing man, throwing all sorts of classical pieces and soundstage stuff on, hoping to be impressed
I just heard some bells on the FARR FARRR back reaches of the orchestra on my CD. Impressed by the details and depth of soundstage. Wow... Will AB with ATH-AD900 after burn-in. This post has been edited by tz3ling: Nov 20 2007, 04:47 PM |

Haha cannot decide la, each of the upper-end ones have their own characteristics... But I think so far, from my headphones, the ranking is as so:
MX300<PX100<X3/SR60<SR80<AD900/MS2i/K701 Haven't really sat down to compare the K701 with the rest but liking it a lot so far. AD900 and MS2i have quite different sound signatures so can't really compare them, although I preferred my AD900 most of the time (except for more intimate jazz/rock tracks where I use the MS2i). It's really an under-rated headphone, the AD900. I've also tried the RS-2, HD650, KSC75, K501, W1000, and D2000 during a recent head-fi meet here. If include these, maybe the list will be something like this: MX300<PX100<X3<KSC75<SR60<SR80 The other upper end phones, cannot really compare. But here's a little summary: MS2i<RS2 - Overall improvement on RS2 in detail, bass quality etc D2000/W1000/HD650 have a warmer/bassier presentation compared to K501/AD900 (not to my liking) Oh yeah, and I tried Yuin PK-1 too... And I think it's over-rated. Not impressed at all Just my 2cents. Cheers |

QUOTE(mofonyx @ Nov 23 2007, 03:27 AM) I can tell you the K1000 is like a Lamborghini, lovely to own, and not too difficult to do so but indeed very expensive to maintain. Difficult to maintain? How so? I had the impression that you just have to recable it, maybe make it balanced, and then get a good amp (it seems Darkvoice 337 goes well with it) for it. Is that right? Or are there other things you have to do? QUOTE(nles @ Nov 23 2007, 05:53 AM) How does ATH A900 compare to AD900 then? Open headphones normally sounds better with the same price range is it? Head-fi is still down.... Sigh |

I wanna try the Canamp la, thinking of getting a solid-state. I haven't had much time with the K701 on the 336i yet. I'll let you know when I get back to KL and have a bit more time on the 336i. K701 doesn't sound that bad on the built-in module actually.

Just bought an AKG K340 from a Headfi-er recently! Totally different beast from the K701!
