Just got this today, I am freaking impressive. Even without any amp, pairing it with my Sony X1k at default setting and EQ, it sounds marvelous although I have to crank the volume up to 22-24 as oppose to my usual volume at 12-15. it rendered my newly bought PX100-II and PX200-II useless now D: (Well they are still good for portable..)

After pairing it up with FiiO E5, it sounds even more freaking good, I know, E5 isn't a proper amp but heck, I'm in UK and no I just can't imagine myself lunging all my stuffs back to Malaysia when I'm done studying here. Though, I am waiting for FiiO E11.

Seriously you should amp it. K701 requires an amp that is 1.5 times its price normally.

Yeah I know but now is not the time..
Whats your recommendation anyway? I'm ready to toss a few k on one.

Also, any recommendation storage or carrying case for K701? (Well..I know the stock one is good enough..but need a good way to carry it.)

I know I'm not doing it right but heck, it sounds impressive enough even with this poorfag's setup.
Can't wait to pair it up with some decent amp lol.

Just love to have both. lol
Well, they are exactly the same except for the detachable cable found on K702.

Sometimes I just can't help it but to doubt the "Burn-in" period.
I've got a K701 that I ran for >200 hours+
And I've got a new K702 out of the box, they sounded exactly the same. lol

Don't tell me the crap like "You've got to burn-in for 1000 hours to notice the different".
IMO, even if Burn-in period is legit, and if the headphone has been burnt-in for 100 hours, it's highly unlikely it's gonna change in the future.

Placebo effect much? I guess.

For myself, perhaps 95% of this so called "Burn-In" period is the adjustment of our Auditory System, and the remaining 5% COULD be the component being burnt-in, or rather, warmed up.

hi guys.

thinking of getting k701.
izit good enough to pair with cheapo dac/amp such as muse dac?

yes im just gonna step into next level. so please guide me. thanks biggrin.gif
*
It's a great headphone but it's not for everyone.
If you like acoustic or vocal, K701 will perform them pretty goddamn well, and it will resolve the most complex spectrum in a song/music that will literally just blow your mind.

Though seriously..I just don't get why K701 is so hard to be driven.
Even Sennheiser HD800 is somewhat easier to drive than K701, at least on my el-cheapo E9.

I had to crank up more volume on K701 to achieve the same volume as HD800 did... sweat.gif

bro @awyongcarl: any insight of choosing between K701 and K702 if the price is almost the same?
*
Personal preference.
Do you like it in White? Or Dark Navy Blue?
Do you need the detachable cable feature?

They both are exactly the same in terms of SQ.

I personally would prefer K701 over K702 though, because K701 comes with a 1/4 while K702 is 1/8 by itself.

I got my K702 cheaper than K701 LOL.

Source?
Because as far as I know, AKG (Even when asked) themselves has said nothing about ANY differences others than Quincy Jones's signature and color, and slapped a doubled price of the exactly same K701/2.

There has even been a long discussion regarding this in Head-fi.
A lot of enthusiasts is disappointed with AKG with such move.

"If there is a company that has fallen/disgraced, it's AKG"

I have seen that lines a lot lol.

lol. just thinking getting the used one. just around usd200. just ngam with my budget  biggrin.gif

and thanks bro awyongcarl;
i currently owned hippo amp. i believe i still need a quite powerful dac/amp. am i rite?
*
I dunno about hippo amp but if it's not a desktop amp, it won't make K701 sing.

LOL! still total 200usd laugh.gif

but, izit good enough to drive k701?
*
It will be sufficient to drive the K701. But do notice, K701 itself, is very flat, cold, airy and analytical.
Not many people fancy that. And the fact that E9 is a neutral amp..so yeah.

with that price range, i can opt maverick d1 dac. how about that?

read a 'few' (yes, im lazy) at head-fi; seems like maverick d1 + k701 is a good combo.
*
You can try? But what I've read is the otherwise though.
All I've read in Head-Fi is "at this price range, nothing can beat E7/E9" lol.

Here is a detailed reviewing of it.

I agree wholeheartfully to what yuheng said.
But one thing you guys should notice is that, Cold, Airy, Hollow, Analytical etc IS the sound signature of K701. IT IS suppose to sound that way by default. Thus, Tube Amps are said to be best paired with it because it will make K701 warmer, for instance, Schiit Valhalla is highly regarded to pair with K701, as Schiit themselves have said and tested.

I still consider E7/E9 as the best bang of buck amp, sure, IF you like the neutrality and do not like anything that distort/modify the sound signature of a pair of Headphone.

I'm serious guys,.. please comment is this K240MKII better than the Audio Technica M50 ?
*
Sorry about that, lol.
Okay umm, I've never had a K240 so I can't comment much but reading around, reviews etc, it's a pretty airy and neutral headphone without any coloration.

Hi, I am a new owner of a pair of akgk702's wanna ask the sensei-sensei here bout the fiio e7 and e9 combo powering it.

The rated maximum input power at the back of the akg box says 200mW, but the fiio e9 outputs at 1W. I wonder if it will damage the akg k702 long term =.="

P.S. walabies : sorry cant buy from u, i kat india now haha
*
I'm using E7+E9 combo with my K701/2.
They work just fine, with no gain, I can turn the volume knob all the way to the end. It's not exactly loud but just nice for me.

Guys, I'm going to place order for K702 tomorrow. Any comment for this model?

Awesome, great and fantastic headphone, also extremely picky at that too unfortunately.
You might like it, or you might just hate it.

Fiio E9 has plenty of juices to provide and is absolutely enough to power up most high-end headphones, I have both K701/2 and HD800, go figure.

The main problem isn't E9 being underpowered, it's more like it's darned NEUTRAL. And K701's bass is somewhat weak, it's airy and may sound "empty", so....basically most people will opt to get amps that can warm up the K701's sound signature.

I for one appreciates how K701/2 originally sounds like, so..I am happy with E9.

And forget about E7 alone, it won't be able to drive K701 at decent volume.
