I haf an Asahi Kasei DAC with me too and it has its sonic qualities, it doesnt sound bright though..maybe they way u described bright is because u are used to Grado's brightness. Its more exciting..thats what i can deduce compared to crystal DAC, but the cs4398 on my 1212m has more dynamic and detail and almost everything else better..just that it is boring and dead.

Han i strongly suggest that you don't do any mod to K701. change ur source instead.

Han, sometimes i feel u lucky to search for alot of info b4 getting this AKG701. Most important is the burnin 1000+ hours to maintain ur confidence in this Flagship headphone.

If others dude who dun do their homework well, they will really headache or let go at cheap price.

I oso agree that u should attend the DIY gathering at KL. Too many headamps around, everybody said they are using the good one.. Until u listen to it, u only realize the improvement is dat little or dun even worth u spent over thousand plus to retrieve the result which might lower than ur expectation.

haha true true. at the mean time use LD2+ to burn in. then at july, bring ur K701, go cucuk cucuk here and there. then find one amp u feel suit ur taste and ur budget, then order from walabies.

that's not the truth. It all started when i complain the K701 wins my SR80 except for the bass impact. I read a lot of reviews regarding the weak bass of K701, and in myself i hope with longer burn-in the bass impact will improve. Then out of no where someone starts to question the LD2+ is underpowered, then when i posted the fact that my listening volume and Patchmix settings is similiar to ijan's, questions about the inferiority of LD2+ starts to appear.

...Just like a poor hero soloing in the middle lane, then all the sudden got gang-banged by the opposing team in a DotA game... PcWork, i never question my amp, and honestly i'm very satisfied with it. Maybe the LD2+ ain't the best match for the K701, but why bother upgrading when i'm ok with how it sounds? No doubt there's a lot of other headamps out there, but i never tested them before so i cannot comment on their performance. I'm always fascinated with valves, and if i ever upgrade my headamp it will be another valve amp too.

xtra unportable? lol. No, maybe you want to put it in a large box to make it unportable. Some of the other choices are the icute ones, which I never try them before.

Aiyo..i still admire the Senn phones can open wide wide one...Dat one can buy for portable if good sounding.
