I noticed if i plug in my tf10 in the e9 6.5mm out, i find the bass muddied and boomy with the highs attenuated, but with the k702 there is no such problem. Anyone can explain ? Thanks
*
Why would you use 6.5mm for a low impedance portable headphone is beyond me.

Basically the 6.5mm out is designed for high impedance and low sensitivity headphones, if I'm not mistaken, a 33 ohm resistor is added in the 3.5mm out for low impedance headphones.

oo just saja wanna test haha. The 3.5 one oso kinda blur eh the sound =.=" too much power can fry the tf10 or not ? haha
*
I am not sure, never tested any portable headphones with my E9 lol.
You should check the specs of the amp and your headphones. But I'd say yes..E9 with gain switched on and at max vol will most likely fry your TF10 lol.

Ic, thanks for your feedback about E7 and E9. Do you have any recommendation to warm up the k702's sound signature? Well I will be heading to Jaben to try out their available range of amp soon, but if there's a good one to go for, I can save the time sweat.gif
*
Since you've stated your budget for 1-2k, I'd definitely recommend either Schiit Asgard (Solid-State) or Valhalla (Tubes).
Valhalla is highly praised and tested with AKG K701 by Schiit themselves.

If portable ver? Any amp reco? I might raise my budget to 3k if my next month allowance increases. hmm.gif

No idea.
Frankly speaking, if you are really thinking of using K702 on-the-go, think AGAIN.
First thing you want to consider is the size, it's humongous and you will look like a retard wearing it outdoor.
Unless..well you wanted to look like one..by all means.

Then, we move to the portable amp..I'd recommend you Headstage : The Arrow.
Here's a detailed and thorough review about it.

http://www.headfonia.com/headstage-the-arrow-amplifier/

Its price is 299USD (Even after adding shipping and taxes, it's still within your budget)

So..yes, if you want a portable amp that can drive K702..I'm pretty sure there are other options.
Also, it's worth mentioning that K702 is definitely NOT a low volume headphone. Meaning, you will lose out a lot of detail if you don't crank the volume considerably high.

Honestly..Using K702 on-the-go doesn't make sense.
It's basically 2 speakers on your ear, meaning anyone 5-10 feet (or more) around you will be able to listen what you are listening.

If I'm 10 feet around you..I'd probably tell you to turn your music/song off because it annoys the eff outta me. Just sayin'

Somehow I find the bolded part to be quite amusing. Imagine a dude wearing a full size cans on the LRT with the Whitney Houston songs leaking out of it (not directed to anybody, and Whitney Houston is an amazing singer).

Anyway guys, what is the flagship model for AKG? Is it the K702?
*
It's K1000. Though...It's been long discontinued..
So yeah..I guess K701/2 is the current flagship of AKG at the moment.

K1000? Damn that thing look darn ugly. Btw, how does it compared to HD800. Btw man I envy your gears. Surely both sound very good.
*
HD800 is superior than K701 that goes without question.
In terms of neutrality, HD800 is unbeatable.

Basically HD800 is a "fixed" K701, it fills all the shorts of K701 like better bass responds/extension, well-controlled high etc, and is even more neutral than K701.

That said...There is something special about K701 and is something that HD800 lacks off from what I can hear..It's probably the emphasized/enhanced highs on K701 lol. For certain songs, K701 is really really damn sweet.

Sorry to burst your bubbles but, Q701 is just a rebranded K702, with new fancy color schemes, and yeah..Quincy Jones's signature.
That's it. Sure..it's still a Flagship but it's not exactly NEW.
K701/2 is not replaced by Q701 and thus..."The new Flagship is now Q701" sounds wrong to me.

Oh?
Can you please then tell me what is the differences?
I am interested to know.I'd like to test it myself but I really can't be bothered to fork out another 200GBP+ for a Q.

Also because, I'd imagine, if there are indeed any differences, AKG would have announced that proudly when they release the Q701 wouldn't they? Especially if it's IMPROVED. But..not that I heard of, only the color and signature obviously. (Oh and doubled the price too!) What really bothers me is even when asked, AKG says there are no differences..Well, I'm just being skeptical I guess, apparently people can hear what they WANTED to hear so..if you do hear any improvement..That's really nice for you.

So it is undeniable that HD800 is superior compared to K702. Hmm, interesting. Can you further explain the bolded parts? Songs such as?

*
Okay, I'll try and state a few examples but, well, I just listen to Japanese songs nowaday so you might not be familiar or even know about them lol.

Few songs that I've found K701 excels at :-

Harinezumi - Azuma Hitomi : This song sounds particularly awesome especially with a certain instruments being emphasized.
Onaji yume - Azuma Hitomi : The vocals and ambient sound effects.
Arrival of Tears - Ayane : Instruments being emphasized
Ichiban no Takaramono - Girls Dead Monster : Acoustic guitar and vocal.
One more time, once more chance - Yamazaki Masayoshi : This song's got 2 version, one is a normal and one is acoustic guitar with vocal only, both sounds great. The Vibration of guitar's string being plucked can be heard.

I can go on and on and on..Well..you get the idea.

Changed a cable and doubled the price, and then it's called as new flagship? Now that's interesting.  hmm.gif
*
No shit sherlock!
It's a tribute to Quincy Jones for his awesomeness, and basically using him as an advertising model to sell their old technology instead of making new one like others did. (ie Beyerdynamic's T1 and Sennheiser's HD800)
Then they slapped a premium price for it lawl.

And oh, CABLES. Not this sh*t again.

Yeah, I suppose that is right. Makes sense actually.
Sorry for spouting nonsense (Or..are they?) lol.

So, what exactly makes them a "Consumer" Flagship now?
Because its premium goes to charity, and because it's more expensive?

K420 K430 and K450 which 1 performs best ?
*
Never heard of them but..
What do you need?

K420 is semi-open, K430/450 is closed.
In this case..I'll follow the general rules of Open are always better than closed at the same class/range/price.

If you need isolation, intending to use in public area like in the train, bus, office etc, closed should be your best bet.
And in this case, K450 would be better than K430. (Spec sheet says so)
Also, the cable of K450 is detachable, an surplus for being portable.

Erm , i dun mind if its closed or open just among then which performs better clarity and bass .
*
I'd guess K420 is the answer then.
But I never tried them so I can't tell. Audition them before buying if you can.
Else..like I said..Open always > Close when price/class/range is taken into account.

To be frank though, you can just buy both, given the price is 1/2 cheaper than Malaysia's price lololol.
Still, it is up to you.

I think as long as you keep everything intact, box, accessories, you can return it within 30 days iinm.

Nah , i just wan something that is worth my money - - . I actually wanted Beats Solo HD , but too pricey . Is there any better headphones out here with similar size ? Maybe Q460 ?
*
I..dunno.
Q460 is like 100+ GBP lol.
I am not a fans of Quincy Jones thus..I am not willing to fork out 3 times price for it. (And nope, I do not need his signature on my headphones)
IMO it should be same as K450, even if there is differences, it wouldn't justify the price.

QUOTE(E1 - AKG @ Apr 9 2011, 07:38 AM)
Overall, the K420 is more balanced than both the K430 and K450.  Since it is semi open, if you are listening in a controlled environment without outside noise, jazz, vocals and instrumentals will turn out great.

If you are into rnb, trance etc with emphasis on bass, K430 is the way to go.

K450 do strike a good balance between the K420 and K430.  My personal pick.

Between the K450 and the Q460, the consideration is:

1.  Sound quality.  There is a slight improvement on the Q460 over the K450 simply because of the higher grade cable use.

2.  Answering of call on a phone.  Do you need the function?  While both the K450 and the Q460 comes with user changeable cables, the Q460 does comes with one that has an inline microphone complete with the latest 3 button design to answer call on all phones that will take the 3.5mm connection plus addition phone functionality on the iPhone.  There is an optional HA450 communication kit for the K450 which comes with a similar cale with inline mic but single button for basic phone function.

3.  Fashion.  It is quite obvious that the Q460 is much "louder" in appearance.

4.  Price.  The premium on the Q460 is going to charity and not to Quincy Jones' pocket. http://qmusiqconsortium.ning.com/

Really hope that helps  hmm.gif

I agree with most of the points that you made there but maybe you can elaborate more a bit on that so called "better" cable.
How is the cable in anyway better than the one on K450?

I believe shmyx is interested to know as well.

AKG actually spent time with Quincy Jones to "tune" the headphones experimenting with different cables.  Do not really know how to describe it, when comparing the K450 and the Q460, the later is has improved definition, very subtle.
*
Well..Okay.

I tends to giggle or laugh when somebody says Quincy Jones is involved in fine tuning these Q when he can't even wear the headphone right. laugh.gif
