Just have a look at this link below, explained the tax residency bit. And from there, to me, it seems that as long as you a hold a PR you are considered tax resident.

QUOTE(JohnJon82 @ Mar 3 2015, 01:12 PM)
How they tax those who got posted overseas for a very long period, say 5 years, but still under employment of SG registered company?
I know of Malaysian who is PR and working from home for a period of time in Malaysia but still under SG employment.
I believe is paying tax resident rate. This is 2 - 3 years back, whether rules changed or not, don't know.

But this applies to PR, for EP I still haven't encountered that someone yet. Anybody can shed light on the EP?

I just converted my license so please allow me to share my experience.

1. I took my extract from KL using those UTC - to be exact in Pudu (not even JPJ main office).

2. Extract just pay RM10. The paper got put "This is computer generated..bla bla..no signature required bla bla". I ask the officer to drop his chop and signature in case SG side declines.

3. If you have Car and Motorcycle license, you need to request for additional things. This one a bit tricky since I did in KL, they are not too familiar. Basically, if you have car + motorcycle license together, then the SG authority needs you to show on that extract when you get your Car License and when you get your Motorcycle license.

This is very important as I see got a few people got rejected so end up, need to make two trips to JPJ.

3a. As I extract in KL, naturally, I also ask for these motorcyle and car (when I get those license information) from the JPJ. I went UTC but they don't know what I am talking so end up I went to main office in JPJ. They also don't know what I am talking. I ask them to show my records on their PC, and my motorcycle license starts (eg 01012000) then my car license starts (eg 01012001 - usually 1 year later , 16yo drive motor then 17yo drive car). So I ask officer to write own the date and also print the computer screenshot as proof.

In SG, they show this chop that shows when both license begins (I assume JB will know this) but since I did in KL, nobody knows about this chop even though I explained million times, in the end resort to Step 3a.

So, I successfully converted and also got my SG driver license. My Malaysia license still don't know what to do with it but I believe the JPJ computer system got record of my extract. So now still thinking to kill it or to ahem...maintain..ahem...it.
